The fire had burned the ground, and it made the dark floor even darker. Kyle’s body sprawled across a burning pool of liquid, looking like the blood of the creatures in his house. There was nothing surrounding him that could be called a house.
When he betrayed Eudaiz for Black Rock, they gave him the land that he called Apep, the name of his god. There was no God in Eudaiz. People lived such happy lives they didn’t need to pray to God. But he had a god. He had a belief. And now his choice had become a curse that killed him.
