Chapter 2: Those damned spies.

My phone rang and I untangled from my current love interest to reach for it.

“hello?” I groaned “ Mel, now I know you and Noah are completely obsessed with each other, but we have school in a few and I have a wing renewal spell to do beforehand so get dressed.” I glanced at the clock and sighed. “babe you do know its only 6 our first class isn’t until 11.” Marlow sent a zap through my phone. “ ow okay geeze I’m up ill be there soon.” I hung up the phone and rolled over to get out of bed but not before strong arms wrapped around me pulling me back down. “and where do you think your going?” I smiled and kissed Noah’s cheek. “gotta head to Marlow’s, he has a issue that needs fixed.” He began grinding his hips into my thigh, and I felt his hard on. “right away?” I smiled and grabbed the front of his boxers. “maybe not right away.” He pulled me on top of him and rubbed my hips. I started to push his boxers down when my phone began blaring again. I sighed and grabbed it flipping it open. “quit f*****g like rabbits and get over here.” I rolled my eyes. “Marlow shut up. We don’t f**k like rabbits.” I snapped the phone closed. “I think you care more about Marlow then you do me.” Noah’s voice dropped and I gave a small smile. “ He’s my best friend Noah. He’s all I have in this world.” I got up grabbed my panties and started for the shower. “Seriously Melinda, what am I to you? Am I not a part of your life?” I sighed this was not the argument I wanted this morning. Noah knew nothing of my world or who I am. I liked it that way. I didn’t need to worry about his safety if he knew everything, and in order to keep it that way I had to go through Marlow’s treatments to keep control over my wings so they wouldn’t just pop out whenever they felt like it. “ Noah, you know that’s not what I meant. I’m not going to fight with you over this. Cant you just understand I care about you too.”

“Care about me, or love me? Because I told you I loved you and you just blow me off instead of saying it back.” I closed my eyes and started getting dressed deciding to skip the shower and just leave. “ Noah please don’t.” I grabbed my bag kissed his cheek and headed for the door. “Mel I’m not going to wait around forever,”

“ I know.” I whispered and shut the door behind me.

About 30 minutes later I’m outside Marlow’s apartment. The door opened and I walked in shutting it behind me. “Mel ill be out in a minute.” He called from the kitchen. I walked around and plopped down on the couch. “ I think Noah’s going to break up with me.”

“whys that?” Marlow appeared beside me with a cup of coffee and handed it to me. “I keep giving him BS excuses and I wont say I love him back.” He took a sip of his own coffee and “well your highness its not like he’s your Mate or anything.” I glared at him. “Wow you really know what to say to a girl.” He laughed. “ I don’t though I’m gay remember. Also you know the prophecy Mel. Happy endings aren’t really our thing.” I sighed realizing he was right and I should probably just let Noah go, but I don’t want to let that little bit of happiness slip away yet. Selfish I know. “ we have a job to do your majesty. You shouldn’t be wasting your time with that human anyways.” He hissed.

“you’ll watch your tongue . ill do with my time as I wish, and stop calling me that.” I snapped “ Why it is your rightful title your highness stop running from it. A daughter of the gods, a lost king, a evil son to die, a war to end all suffering.” “shut up I know the prophecy.” I cut him off and took a deep breath. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it. “I’m sorry. I’m just tired.” He smiled and hugged me. “lets do that renewal and get you in the shower so we can get to class.” I breathed and shook my head.

An hour later and the spell was complete. I had better control over my wings once again. Normally Nephilim have complete control over transformations but I struggle. Marlow’s spell helps me keep them hidden unless I want them out. Mar believes it to be because I’m a god and my wings aren’t meant to be kept in hiding but I’m not so sure, sometimes I feel like they have a mind of their own.

As we walked onto campus I seen Noah and gave a wave. He gave me a small smile. “ Mar ill see you in class.” I walked over to Noah and his friends walked away giving waves goodbye. “ hey babe.” I stood on the tip of my toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. “ hey Mel.” s**t he was still mad. So I took a deep breath. And decided honesty was the best way to go. “ Noah I care about you, I just cant say the words. It wouldn’t be right to say them if I don’t mean them. I’m just not there yet the way you are.” “its been a year when will you be ready Mel?” he took a few steps back from me. “ I don’t know.” I whispered. He took my face in his hands and kissed me. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to push.” I sighed thankful we were putting this aside for now. “just don’t give up on me yet ok?” he smiled and placed a kiss on my forehead. “not yet.” I looked over to see a figure in all black staring at me. A cigarette hanging from his mouth. “hey I have to stop at the library before class ill see you tonight after work.” I kissed him quickly and started walking toward the library before he even had a chance to say goodbye.

I smiled as I sensed the man following me. I rounded the corner of a building to a secluded ally, and turned pulling my knife from my pocket. Not that id be using it long. The man stepped the cigarette out and laughed. “thought I was being more sneaky then that.”

“what do you want?” I rolled my eyes “ I think you know my queen.” I laughed. He pulled a phone from his pocket, “ I’ve got her.” I was on him in an instant slicing his throat, gold liquid pooled down the front of his shirt. He laughed as the wound started to heal. “that wont work beautiful.” I pulled his face in locking our gazes. “ no but this will.” I opened my mouth and sucked his life from him. His body burst into tiny sparkling flakes and I bent down to pick up his phone. Then hit redial. “Rain did you get her.” I took a deep breath and snarled at the sound of Daius voice. “what the hell is this.” He started chuckling. “ Melinda my Darling finally. Come home, I need you.” Honestly I almost threw up. “get real the only person you need is yourself.” “ I have spies everywhere Mel ill get you eventually.” I laughed “ good luck leaving your prison.” He tisked. “Mel I know you’ve been unfaithful to your husband. If you come back now I wont even punish you for it.” Over my god damned body. “you are not the man I loved and married.” I smashed the phone on the ground and walked away. Pulling my own phone out to text Marlow.

Me: he’s f*****g got spies.

Marlow: He’s always had spies highness but he cant leave.

Me: yeah well be careful because if he’s got them going after me hell find you too.

Marlow: id love to see them try to take on my power.

I laughed sliding my phone back into my pocket and walked into my first class.
