Chapter 11: Moving sucks, even with magic powers
Wed gone straight to bed last night completely drained. I laid in his arms just listening to his soft snores. I played with the hair on his chest and traced some of the scars. Scars that had been there for years. Scars that the wounds had to have been so deep for them to be so bad. Some of them so long they traced his sides. It was torture what they did to him. What Danaius did to him. It startled me when his arms tightened around me, but then he kissed my head. “What are you thinking about so early in the morning?” I kissed his chest. “just how happy I am.” “good.” I looked at the clock and sighed. “I think we need to get up, we don’t have a whole lot of time.” He groaned, “I’m not ready for today. Going back to daily tasks is going to be difficult.” I nodded “ it really is. Also I still haven’t done my paper.” I groaned now realizing just how much I needed to get caught up on. He laughed though getting up, “I need to go feed the horses and Benji.” I shook my head. “ill shower and make coffee.” He bent down and kissed me again. “sounds good. See you in a bit.” I flopped back down on the bed when he left the room. God I’m like a little school girl with him. I don’t think I ever felt like this with Daius ever. They are both so different and yet I can see the similarities, not in actions but in looks. Sharp jaw lines, incredible bodies if you know what I mean, very well endowed. Taren though and this maybe me being incredibly biased but is so much better in all aspects.
Getting up and grabbing clothes I headed for the shower. I’m not sure why the universe decided the things about my love life they did but I’m grateful. Taren doesn’t ask anything of me doesn’t want anything from me, he just wants well me. Daius I was good with we were good together until he wasn’t, something changed in him at some point. At some point he wasn’t himself anymore. He was scary, and mean and I should have realized all the signs but I didn’t want to I wanted to believe it was just a rough patch, that wed get through it. I’m also extremely glad we didn’t because who knows what would have happened, and I wouldn’t be here with Taren who is safe and yeah scary as hell when he’s angry, but not with me.
I thought again about the message box. “see you soon” ran through my head over and over. I took a deep breath and let the hot water wash the tears from my eyes. Hands wrapped around my waist and I gasped. “ you okay baby?” Taren’s voice calmed me. “you scared me you know?” he laughed kissing my neck. “I’m sorry I just felt like something was wrong so I came to check on you, found you crying. So are you okay?” I turned in his arms. “I’m okay I’m scared.” His eyebrows came together and he frowned. “Why?” I shook my head. “What’s going to come. War is coming, and its going to be three of us against armies.” We stayed silent for a while before he answered. “It’s going to be hard that’s for damn sure, but were going to get through this.” His words helped to calm my nerves. If we die well die together.
Later on we were heading to campus, me on the back of his motorcycle. I was seriously getting to like this, it was almost as fun as flying, almost. We pulled into his parking spot, he helped me off the bike and I pulled off the helmet. I kissed his cheek and handed it to him. “Ill see you later cowboy.” His laugh could melt away any sadness. “Ill see you later beautiful.” I turned to leave and was sucked into a portal, f*****g hell. I ended up in Taren’s office where Marlow was waiting for me. “Jesus Christ mar what the f**k! You couldn’t wait till I was sitting right next to you? You know in class!” He laughed and rolled his eyes. “You know I’m no good at waiting, besides I needed to make sure you were okay. I was feeling something strange from you this morning.” I shook my head. “Yeah I’m fine Mar, I feel fine.” He starred at me a few minutes. “Okay then.” He linked arms with me and started walking us to class. Something off with me huh? Seems like there might be something off with him, dang wizard. “Warlock honey not a wizard.” I glared at him. “stay out of my thoughts Mar.” I said putting up a mental block wall. “don’t be shouting your thoughts so loud then, or where you not aware you said that one out loud?” I froze, I did? Well s**t. “I guess not.” I blushed as we took our seats. I need to relax some, Daius has got me so frustrated I cant think straight. Paying attention to the lecture was very difficult the only thoughts in my mind were seeing Taren and being afraid of Daius popping up out of no where. I decided instead to try to think about this move. About packing boxes and what to get rid of. And instead of notes, I could copy from Marlow later I started making a list of all the items to keep and get rid of. “You want me to help with that?” Marlow whispered in my ear. “This and maybe even with some extra study time. Things have been so weird lately trying to do any of this has thrown me off.” I whispered back and he nodded. “Of course ill help. Maybe that’s why I was feeling so many emotions from you. I’m sorry I should’ve been paying more attention to the stress you’ve been going through.” I shook my head. “No Mar its fine. You’ve got a life too. We promised we were going to live somewhat normal lives. Your my guardian but your my friend too.” I smiled and squeezed his hand. Then tried to focus on what our math teacher was attempting to show us. “if your getting rid of your Couch I want it, mine sucks.” I laughed. “go for it babe.”
The day dragged and the classes I didn’t have Marlow in to keep me entertained dragged even worse. When I finally had a break in between classes I went to the library to try and at least get started on that term paper. I’m one hundred percent sure I’m going to fail this, and there’s no way to magic a term paper no matter how much you want to. So I pulled out my notebook and my laptop and hit the web. A short while later my phone buzzed.
Taren: Where are you?
Me: library trying to get some work done.
A short while later he was next to me setting a sandwich and a water bottle next to me. “thought you might be hungry.” Oh how I was. Skipping lunch was a bad idea. “yes.” I took a bite and sighed heck yes I was starving. “How’s the paper going?” I sighed again, “Its going, that’s about all I can say about it.” I pushed the lap top back and leaned my head against his shoulder. “I missed you today.” He kissed my head. “Yeah me too. How many more classes do you have left?” he asked taking a bite of his own sandwich. “just yours.” “ you can wait in my office if you want after get some more work done. I have a teachers meeting after class then we can head to your place.” I’d sent a txt to my landlord that id be moving out by the end of the month but obviously it would be sooner then that. I played with the ring on my finger, it was odd to have one again after so long. “theirs a charity Mascaraed next month here at the school, I don’t know if your into these things but would you like to go with me?” I smiled “Taren are you asking me to the school dance?” he laughed “its kind of against the rules but we’ve been breaking a lot of rules lately.” He placed a kiss on my neck, whispering in my ear. “Might even break some more tonight.” The damn flirt. “ I mean its not really my thing.” I shrugged, two can play thins game. “its kind of a requirement for me to go or at least make an appearance.” I ran my hand over the front of his pants. “Well in that case I might go, wouldn’t want the other girls thinking you were single now. I seen the way that one lady from the office fawns over you.” I ran a finger along the edge of his pants and then pulled away quickly standing and gathering my things. “well teach wouldn’t wanna be late to that class ill see ya later.” Smiling in victory I turned to face him. “devil women.” I knew exactly why he couldn’t stand up yet and it was the best feeling ever. “Also Mars going to help us get things moved. So hell probably be there before we even are. So no funny business Mr.” he laughed and pointed to his slacks. “Funny business? after you do this?” I winked and started walking to the classroom. Id probably pay for that later. I walked up to my seat in his classroom, Marlow already there waiting. “I don’t think I told you but that ring is fabulous.” I rolled my eyes. “No you didn’t but that you, it was Taren’s moms. Not goddess mom but raised him mom.” Marlow winked “I think I got that part. “how am I supposed to get through this class? All I’m going to be doing is thinking about him naked.” More and more students piled in, “Naked is the best way to think of teacher as.” I snort laughed and then Taren walked in and the world stopped. Damn he really was hot. “I wonder what he looks like under that shirt.” One of the girls below me said, “I heard from Thomas he has all these scars, he’s seen him in the gym a few times.” My eyes darted to the girl “ its like he’s been mauled or something.” I bent down close to them. “I’ve seen it too but he’s such a man, Thomas doesn’t have abs like that.” I winked and sat back “You are so mean.” I laughed as Marlow whispered and the girls went back to their chatter. Taren kept glancing at me and I stared right back. He never lost focus on his lecture, he really was an incredible teacher answering questions, and giving tips and pointers. Once the assignment was written on the board we all jotted it down as the bell rang. “ill catch up with you later Mar.” I said as I took my time packing my stuff up until I was the last person in the class. I sat in the front desk waving my hand to lock the door. “You do know the boys are talking about your scars at the gym.” He shrugged “everyone always has.” I took that in for a minute remembering he had a life before me just as I did before him. “I guess I didn’t think about that.” He sighed “Even as a kid people always talked. I got Max to come help us with the moving stuff, gives you a chance to meet him too.” I shook my head. “that would be cool. Are we still going to your moms?” he walked over placing his hands on my hips and kissed me. Way to throw my brain off track. “Stop talking so much.” I smiled putting my arms around his neck and wrapping my legs around his hips. We stayed like that for a few minutes before he pulled away. “I need to get going to that meeting.” I sighed unraveling myself from him. “this is going to be hard isn’t it?” he frowned “what do you mean?” I stood up taking a few steps back. “You and I. me being in this classroom, literally I’m not even sure what you lectured about today because I was to busy drooling and then the school thing like what if the other teachers find out or god forbid a student other then Marlow.” He placed his hand on my hip again. “Baby I could care less who knows, and if your really that concerned I can have you transferred to Kristen’s class.” I thought about that and sighed that would probably be a good idea. Then it wouldn’t be a thing if we were found out, I wouldn’t be his student and he wouldn’t get fired. “Kristen?” he scratched his head. “ yeah she’s the other senior English teacher.” I glared at him. “you dated didn’t you.” He looked up “briefly.” So either compare myself to his ex everyday or pray we don’t get caught the rest of the year. “is she human?” this was awkward, “Yeah she is.” I sighed. “okay then I should probably transfer, I guess if it gets to weird I can just suck her soul out right?” his eyes widened. “Just kidding.” I held my hands up in surrender, kind of. I jumped off the desk and picked up my bag. “You should get to that meeting.” I kissed him hard then left heading for his office. Getting my homework done was the last thing on my mind but it was also the only thing that would keep my brain from rambling on.
I stared way to long at my books before realizing it had been a while since I last left Taren’s class. knowing I needed to get some of my things mainly extra clothes from my apartment I shot a quick text to Taren telling him to meet me there and I left campus. Walking always cleared my thinking and the warm afternoon air felt good on my skin.
I got up to my apartment floor and found my door opened the lock broke. Pulling out my dagger I pushed the door open to see my living room trashed. Drawers emptied my tv smashed and the couch torn apart, Marlow was not going to be happy. I moved down the hall gripping my dagger closer. Pushing my door open I stepped inside. “Hello baby.” I turned. “I am not your baby.” I scowled taking in Daius laying on my bed. “Quiet the little place you have here I didn’t think it was your style, you always loved the castle.” I put my back against the wall. “I’ve never been into things with big egos.” He laughed then sitting up. “you’ve gotten feisty I like it.” I looked him up and down. “You’ve gotten thinner.” “ha-ha! Well that’s because while you’ve been enjoying your time down here I’ve been worried sick about you. Then our marriage bond broke and well I’ve been in shambles my love.” I wanted to vomit. “Really now? Cause I’ve felt so much better since it has.” He was in front of me now his face inches from mine. “no worries it’ll be fixed soon.” He sniffed my hair. I shoved my dagger into his stomach but he never even flinched. He looked between us. “Now baby that wasn’t nice. I forgive you though I did hurt you.” He pulled it out and ran his fingers along my jaw. Then he kissed me pressing his mouth against mine. I bit his lip hard and he backed away wiping the blood with his thumb. He smiled grabbing me again and ripping my shirt open. “Your mine.” He pushed me hard against the wall, crushing our mouths together. Tears ran down my face as I tried to push him away. He tore at my clothes. Then in an instant he was gone and across the room crushing into the wall. “Keep your f*****g hands off my Wife.” Taren’s voice rang in my ears and I couldn’t help the sobs now thankful he was here. “Ha-ha oh Melinda this is so like you.” Daius laughed getting up. “Hello there brother." Taren’s eyes were black and his wings were completely spread out. He seemed so tall like this. “Your no brother of mine. How dare you think you can touch her and live.” Daius ticked and stood brushing the dust off his black shirt. “She was mine first or did she not mention that?” Taren’s jaw clenched. “You may have had her once but not anymore.” Daius black wings spread wide now and rushed Taren but he was to slow Taren dodged quickly and grabbed his neck slamming him to the ground. I must give you credit your strong, But I know a few things.” Daius shoved my dagger into Taren’s side and punch him with a fist full of fire. “No!” I shouted and Marlow appeared next to me covering me with his jacket and placing a barrier between us and the two men. It didn’t take Taren long to recover, he slammed his hand right through Daius stomach. Daius laughed “Not bad brother, I look forward to our next fight.” then in an instant he was next to the barrier grinning ear to ear. “Ill be seeing you again soon baby and next time were going to have a long chat about that Mating bond you have going on.” And just like that he was gone. Marlow let the barrier down and I ran to Taren. He pulled the dagger out throwing it to the ground. “The f**k were you thinking Mel! I said don’t go anywhere by yourself!” he growled at me grabbing one of the shirts off my floor shoving it on his side. He was right I shouldn’t have come here on my own, the last thing I expected was Daius to be here though. The shirt becoming soaked with his blood I grabbed another and tried to replace it but he pushed me away. “Marlow take her home.” I tried to protest but just like that I was standing on the porch of Taren’s home. “Marlow why’d you.” He put a finger up. “Shut up, you don’t get to talk right now I warned you he was coming and you decided to just go home by yourself? He could have taken you back in an instant. He wanted you to show up he wanted Taren to come rescue you. Did you forget about his agenda or are you just that stupid.” I slapped him then. “You don’t get to talk to me like that.” He laughed. “what tell you the truth? That you were being incredibly stupid?” I pulled the jacket closed tighter, looking down trying not to cry more. He was right and I’m going to be the reason Taren gets himself killed. I seen that today, Daius is stronger then he was before. He’s not going to stop now that he can leave the kingdom whenever he wants. Taren walked through the door then throwing some of my duffle bags down on the floor. “Marlow give us a minute.” His voice was commanding, like the king the is. Marlow walked out the door Taren came through and shut it. “What the hell were you doing he almost.” He stopped himself from saying the words and I couldn’t bring myself to say them either. If he hadn’t of stopped him there Daius would’ve claimed me. I was to weak to fight him off, I was to scared. I couldn’t stop them now the sobs came as I fell to the ground unable to hold myself up any longer. “f**k” Taren was there in an instant pulling me into his arms. “Mel I’m sorry.” He held me as I cried.
I woke up a little while later in bed, Taren wasn’t next to me. I got up frantically turning on the light. “Taren?” he had dressed me at some point, though I couldn’t remember. I couldn’t even remember when id fallen asleep. I hurried out of the room searching the house for him. I finally found him outside sitting by the fire pit. He poked at the flames with another log before placing it in. My heart pounded as I watched him. I could see the sadness on his face, id caused that. He had to walk in on his mate being attacked by his brother. I raised my hand to open the door but stopped. Maybe bothering him right now wasn’t a good idea. I turned walking back towards the hallway again. “were you not going to join me?” Taren’s voice hit me and made me want to cry all over again, His voice soft with worry. I turned looking at him. “I thought maybe you wanted to be alone.” He placed his hands in his pockets. “I think I’ve done enough of that.” I nervously walked towards him stepping outside. He shut the door as I walked and sat in one of the chairs next to the fire. Placing a blanket around my shoulders he placed a soft kiss on my head. “thanks” he sat in the chair next to me. “Are you okay? I’m sorry I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you.” I shook my head. “I shouldn’t have left without you.” I admitted petting Benjis ear. He took my hand lacing our fingers together. “I was afraid I was going to lose you.” He finally said. “I know me too.” I looked into his eyes now, hurt in them. “How’s your side?” I said reaching around to lift his shirt. He shook his head pushing my hand away. “I’m fine Marlow healed it.” Of course he did. “you shouldn’t be mad at him he just did what I asked, you didn’t need to be there.” I was mad at both of them. “Taren I didn’t want to leave and no one should’ve made me, not even you.” He stood then walking to the other side of the fire. “Are we really going to do this Mel? You were in danger.” “I wasn’t in danger Taren He’d already left.” I threw my arm out. “From me Mel, you were in danger from me.” I froze then. “what?” he looked out toward the field. “I seen him on you and I wanted to not only rip him limb from limb but also you. I wanted to hurt you, I wanted to claim you and make him watch I wanted him to know you were mine.” He looked at me. “I wanted to punish you. I’ve never felt those feelings in my life Mel and they terrified me once I realized it. I don’t know what the hell is happening to me but its not good. I feel like things just keep spiraling out of control.” I looked at my hands and at my ring. “since you met me things have been spiraling for you.” I said softly. “That’s not what I mean.” I looked up at him. “it is what you mean, its true. Your whole world has changed since meeting me. You don’t have to sugar coat it.” he ran a hand through his hair. “Mel meeting you has made my life better.” I shook my head. “Its made it harder.” He was in front of me now. “Harder but I wouldn’t give it up to go back either.” I looked in his eyes. “then why are you so sad.” I touched his face. And pointed to his eyes. “these give you away.” I looked down at my hands again. “I don’t want to be the thing that causes you sadness Taren.” I slid the ring off my hand and put it in his. Tears sliding down my cheeks. His eyes widened, “Mel you don’t cause me sadness I’m sad about all you have to go through.” I shook my head and stood. My heart felt like it was shattering. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’m not going to be the things that tears you apart.” I started to walk away but he grabbed my hand pulling me to him. “This, you leaving is what will tear me apart Melinda.” I shook my head the tears falling now. “You’ll be okay after awhile.” His mouth crashed on mine kissing me. “don’t you ever think for one minute ill be fine without you.” Tears streaked his cheeks too and my heart broke all over again. “All I’ve been doing is causing you pain how can you even want me still.” He kissed me again. “Ill want you till the day I die. Whether that be tomorrow or a hundred years from now. This isn’t supposed to be easy, but your mine and I’m never letting go.” I gave in wrapping my arms around his neck kissing him deeply. I didn’t deserve him not in the slightest. Grabbing my hand he slipped the ring back on my finger. “This doesn’t ever leave your finger again.” He said sternly. “I promise.” I kissed him again. “lets go to bed please.” I whispered and we were there in an instant. clothes being thrown to the floor and our bodies becoming tangled until we were one.
“What is that?” I pointed at the open door in the hall. Opening the door wider I gasped. It was all of my stuff basically just thrown into the room a complete disaster. “Marlow was a little pissed off.” Taren sighed grabbing my hips. “Clearly” I glared at the mess, I guess I should be grateful he even moved it in the first place. “f*****g drama king.” I flipped off the light switch and turned back on my mission for water. “To be fair you did slap him.” I glared at Taren now. “He was incredibly disrespectful.” He shook his head and threw his hands up in surrender. Id apologize eventually but right now I couldn’t care less.
