Episode 12: Ghosts Don’t Bleed, But They Remember
They hid in the oldest wing of Nightmoor—The Wraith Library—a cursed collection of books so haunted that even ghosts avoided it.
“Welcome to the only library where overdue books scream at you,” Nox muttered as he floated past a snarling encyclopedia.
Kai wasn’t listening.
He stood before a tall, chained book pulsing with black veins: The Book of Undeclared Bloodlines.
He placed a hand on it. It opened with a groan like a tomb.
“Careful,” Lira said. “That thing nearly bit my uncle once.”
Kai turned a page.
Inside, ink swirled like it was alive.
Then he saw it—his name. Burned into the page.
> KAI VELDEN
Lineage: Unknown.
Status: Unclaimed Heir.
Threat Class: Omega Apex.
Nox hovered over his shoulder. “That sounds… not harmless.”
Lira frowned. “Omega Apex? That’s f*******n magic. A hybrid of more than two nightbloods—vampire, werewolf, ghost, demon…”
Kai stared at his own name.
“It means I’m all of them.”
And then… someone screamed.
Down the hall, the shadows came alive.
Spectral armor poured from the ceiling. A floating librarian—long dead, barely sane—was being dragged by an invisible force.
“THEY KNOW!” she howled. “THE COUNCIL—THEY’RE HERE!”
Kai grabbed the book and ran. Nox summoned a shield of green flame. Lira transformed halfway—fur crawling up her arms as her eyes turned silver.
“Split up!” Kai yelled. “Meet at the Bone Tunnel!”
“On three?” Nox shouted.
“On ‘run’!”
Kai darted into the second floor, a maze of collapsing staircases and whispering shelves.
Something was chasing him. Not footsteps—absence. A space that devoured sound.
He ducked behind a fallen lectern and opened the book again. Pages flipped themselves.
An entry glowed:
> The Pale Prince. The Mirrorborn. The End-That-Walks.
The first Omega Apex was not a king. He was a mistake.
Images surged: a child with golden-black eyes… whole cities in flame… a wolf with antlers… a shadow that wore people’s faces.
Kai gasped. It wasn’t just prophecy.
It was memory.
His memory.
Suddenly, the silence behind him spoke.
> “You were not meant to remember.”
He turned.
A ghost in armor stood there—no face, only white fire.
Kai raised his hand instinctively.
But the ghost didn’t attack.
Instead, it bowed.
“You carry what I carried. A curse. A chance.”
Kai’s voice cracked. “Who are you?”
The ghost stepped closer.
“I was the last Omega. I burned the city of Vorthal to save it from itself. They erased me from history. Now they want to do the same to you.”
“Why?”
“Because you are the only one who can break the cycle.”
Before Kai could ask more, the ghost turned to ash, whispering:
> “Find the Mirror Crypt. There, the truth waits.”
Outside, Lira fought off the Council’s Shades, glowing with fury and power. Nox hurled a pumpkin bomb that exploded into purple laughter. The trio finally met at the Bone Tunnel—a spiraling staircase carved into the ribs of a fossilized serpent.
They collapsed inside, breathing hard.
“I found out what I am,” Kai said.
Lira looked at him. “And?”
“I’m not a monster.”
He looked up, eyes calm.
“But I might have to become one… to stop them.”
