IT WAS FINAL; kill or be killed on the battle ground. Bodies were flung across the plain, hearts were ripped out of chest's, whimpers of wolves could be heard as they took their last breath. Both pack warriors and rogues dropped dead one after the other. She saw red ;This wasn't the plan , no bloodshed was intended unless it was absolutely necessary, they were just supposed to kidnap the Luna so she could be reunited with their leader. But now that she thought about it carefully, it seemed almost impossible. How do you kidnap the Luna of a pack without being noticed. She hid back trying to drown out the battle sounds around her. The moon goddess seemed to take pity on her as their leader's heart was ripped out; bringing the battle to an abrupt end.
All the rogues surrendered after their leader dropped dead; sensing the battle was over, she was conflicted between surrendering or running away since she hadn't been discovered yet but running away didn't seem like the smart choice because how would she even fend for herself as a lone wolf. There was a simmer of hope if she surrendered, she may be spared and atleast granted a place in the pack even though it meant being among the lowest rank. With that resolution; she came out of her hiding spot and surrendered. They were all rounded up and taken to the dungeons for questioning and judgement.
Days later; In the dungeons, screams could be heard coming from different cell rooms . Audrey sat on the cold bare floor in the dark cell room. They hadn't come to interrogate her yet but the screams that echoed throughout the dungeons made her shiver. She was extremely weak as a result of the chains laced in wolfsbane which were placed on her. She could barely hear her wolf in her head and this frightened her more.
"Would she go through this alone?"She wanted some kind of comfort from her wolf but the wolfsbane had really taken a toll on her wolf. The screams sounded closer now ; they were interrogating the wolf in the room next to hers, this only terrified her the more. Each scream sent shivers down her spine.
"Moon goddess, please see me through this", she prayed. She was jolted out of her thoughts by the sound of her cell door opening, she scrammed into the far corner of the room; shivering as the warriors entered. Dragged to the center of the room; she came face to face with the head warrior who stared at her disdainfully.
How did you rogues manage to get to the borders?, she just sat there staring at him and couldn't give him an answer . I don't like to repeat myself, he said but still nothing because in truth she actually didn't know; she knew that each pack had talisman they placed at the borders to ward off rogues and she was surprised when they freely approached the border meaning either their leader was working with someone from within the pack or the warriors had forgotten to place the talisman; the latter seemed to be the most logical explanation. She snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a lash of the whip coated in silver on her back; she screamed. Will you answer my question now? In between sobs; she managed to mutter "I don't know ". Tsk ,Wrong answer; the whip came down on her again a couple more times but each time, her answer never changed . She didn't know; the warrior seemed to finally come to terms with the fact that she didn't actually know how they were actually able to get past the talisman.
Why this pack? The warrior asked; she looked at him like he had suddenly grown two heads. Didn't he know why?; she was whipped again. Because of the Luna, she screamed. He was taken aback by this. What do you mean? He asked. We were supposed to kidnap the Luna for our leader; she is his fated mate but she chose to be the new alpha's chosen mate instead of leaving with her fated mate when he was stripped off his alpha's title. When he left the pack, he started gathering stray wolves who didn't have a pack or where to go.
"He's going to come for her"she whispered. How?, he's dead; the warrior laughed. "He's not". This statement seem to trouble the warrior as he immediately rushes to link the alpha about the latest information.
The alpha, alongside Devon and Jay ( his sons) rushes into the dungeons. Once inside the dungeons; Devon starts sniffing the air, his wolf Jack is bouncing about excitedly in his head. Would you stop jumping around, you're giving me a headache!. "Mate is close by" jack retorted. Taken aback, what do you mean? I don't know but I can smell her and she smells heavenly. Do you guys smell anything; he asked jay and his dad. No, they responded.
As soon as they step into Audrey's cell; he blurts out 'MATE' before he could stop himself. Everyone whips their head in his direction even Audrey seems genuinely surprised because she doesn't feel the mate bond but she remembers that she can barely even sense her wolf at this point.
WHO DARES TO LAY THEIR HANDS ON MY MATE? Jack growls as he struggles for control with Devon. "Calm down mutt" Devon whispers in his head. See what they did to mate; she's all battered up and I can barely even sense her wolf, jack responds. Devon puts a mind-block up so he can think without jack growling in the back of his head. The more he stared at Audrey, the angrier jack got , he finally breaks the mind-block and takes control from Devon.
RELEASE HER!! He snarls, as the warriors scurry around to take the restraints off her. She slumps to the ground once the restraints are off and this sends jack immediately to her side scooping her up in his arms and racing to the pack house, refusing to give control back to Devon while mind-linking the pack doctor .
