Candice stood shocked and speechless , wondering what was going on; Devon had never brushed her off before . She decided to go and wait for him in his chambers but on getting there she found two warriors stationed there. YOU CANT GO IN, the warriors said standing in her way; 'why' she asked,Prince Devon forbade anyone from going into his room in his absence, they responded in unison . "But I'm his soon to be chosen mate, don't I get an exception? Besides it's not my first time coming to his chambers" they still wouldn't let her in. She gave up and walked away, something was definitely wrong but she couldn't quite place her finger on what it was.

Meanwhile in the alpha's office; Devon still stood rooted outside the door, he couldn't bring himself to knock because he wasn't ready to answer all the questions that will for sure be thrown at him. While still debating, the door flung open startling him and jay a bit because neither expected the other to be behind the door. 'WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING OUT HERE' jay asked, 'I came to see father' he responded, 'Go in then'; I was just about to knock before you opened the door, Devon replied and with that, he walked into the office shutting the door behind him as jay walked away,shaking his head.

As he stepped inside and sat down, he greeted; his father finally raised his face from the documents he was signing. How is she? He asked; the pack doctor said she'll be fine but she may take a very long time to heal because of how malnourished she is and how bad the wolfsbane had affected her, he sighed.

What do you plan on doing?his father asked; I really don't know father, I've been with Candice for a really long time, we even talked about taking each other as chosen mates and I wouldn't want to hurt her like that because I finally found my mate. He couldn't bring himself to tell his father the truth, it wasn't because he didn't want to hurt Candice, it was because his mate is a weak rogue and if he's father knew the real reason, he would force him to break things off with Candice and choose his mate. Do you want to reject her? His father asked; " I don't know yet, I'm still trying to think things through but within him, he had made up his mind to reject his mate". 'After all, which sane person would choose a mere rogue wolf over a beta's daughter' this was his thought. His father looked him up and down and knowing the son he had and how he was so ambitious to compete for the throne agsinst his brother sensed that he wasn't telling him the entire truth but he didn't want to press it, so he let it go. He decided to just advise him instead " take your time and think everything through so you don't regret it later; the moon goddess is not to be mocked, she pairs us with whom she thinks is suitable for us and who would bring out the potential in us". Devon smiled and thanked his father for the advice before leaving his office. Once outside the office, he scoffed; what possible potential could that weak little thing bring out in me? Was the moon goddess blind to his ambitions?or was she playing games with him? he sighed and walked away. He was getting agitated and needed to clear his head and decided to go to the training room to train but after about two hours of training, he still wasn't feeling any better; he looked at the clock in the training room and it read seven pm. He decided he was going to go for a run and headed towards the forest surrounding the borders. When he got there, he took off his clothes so he doesn't rip them when changing and tucked them behind a rock before shifting to jack and racing into the forest. Jack was happy to be let out again after all this time and he raced faster and deeper into the forest dodging the trees that stood in his path.

He let Jack run for about 45 minutes before circling back to where he had dropped his clothes and shifted before putting on his clothes. Once dressed, he started heading back to the pack house hoping he doesn't run into Candice and luck seemed to be on his side this particular night as he made it safely to his room without bumping into Candice. Inside his room, he stared at the figure on his bed and sighed, the sweet smell of raspberry and lavender filling his nostrils; he checked on her IV and replaced it with another bag before injecting the drugs the doctor had given him. Once done; he proceeded to lay in bed with her, his nose nuzzled in her neck inhaling her scent which seemed to calm him down. "I might as well just enjoy her scent while it lasts" he thought before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

The next morning; he was up early to prepare for their daily warriors training but he felt reluctant to get out of bed, just laying in bed and staring into Audrey's face as she lay unconscious on the bed. MATE IS PERFECT, Jack whimpered in his mind; "please don't start mutt" he retorted but couldn't stop himself from stroking her face which felt so smooth and soft on his fingers. The mate bond was driving him crazy pulling him closer despite the fact he was trying so hard to ignore it.

BUT DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO REJECT MATE, Jack whined in the back of head; " yes I do and you know why". Why can't you just give up on the throne? I could understand your ambition when we hadn't met mate and you wanted to take a chosen mate but now we've met mate and you feel she's too weak, can't you just let it go? Jack growled in his head; NO, he yelled out without realizing causing the guards who had returned to their post for the new day to rush in but he waved them off that he was okay and they left. Jack shook his head; "Humans so dumb and blinded by greed that they choose to go against the will of the moon goddess, he muttered before retreating back.
