CHAPTER 2 Tap. Tap. Tap. My eyes fluttered opened. Through the window, I noticed the sun was peeking at me from above the buildings, high in the sky. I slept till noon? What a pleasant surprise, I thought, as I stretched and let out a loud yawn. It had been ages since I had slept so much and so soundly, too. Tap. Tap. I sat up. Where was that sound coming from? I turned and found a copper bird tapping its beak on my window. When I went over to the window, I saw it was some sort of mechanical bird.
