CHAPTER 9 Wrapping the new leather apron I bought at the market around my waist, I smiled. My new dress from the Three Dots would be protected from whatever madness I faced that day with Burk. He had said we had many things to do and, when I got to the workshop to find him placing a tiny brown puppy inside a sugar circle, I knew he wasn’t kidding. I collected my hair into a bun and tightened my new sandals just in case I had to chase after the poor little creature. “We will transport this apple today!” Burk said, loud, too loud for that early hour.
