Meghan The living room is quiet, save for the soft rustle of Chloe’s movements beside me. The dim golden glow from the table lamp casts long shadows against the walls, barely reaching the corners of the room. I watch her as she cradles the mug of tea in her hands, her fingers wrapped around it with a calmness I can’t match. Her eyes are distant, thoughtful, lost in some quiet reverie that I can’t penetrate. The stillness stretches between us like an invisible thread, and I wish for nothing more than for her to be anywhere but here, out of the line of fire. But Chloe has other plans.
