The Note

Walking into the house, I could smell something amazing. I didn't know what it was, but whatever it was, was making my stomach growl in hunger. ‘Oh that smells good.’ I dribbled in excitement. ‘Indeed it does smell good Valentine. Shall we go see what it is?’ Tristan Agreed All the boys nodded in agreement. ‘I think it is toad in the hole. Well, I hope it is at least.’ Theo hoped. ‘I don’t know what it is. I cant tell, all I can smell is sage.’ Tristan informed us. Benji and Jed murmured in agreement. ‘I cant smell anything.’ Mace was too weak to even notice the smell drifting our way. The beating he received from Camilla must have been to much for him. As we got closer the smell of sage got stronger and stronger. We followed it to the dining room where I flung open the doors, I strode inside being taken in by the smells the room had been holding. Once inside a big roast dinner had been laid out for us. It was a huge joint of beef, which lay in the centre of the table. With roast potatoes cooked in goose fat a lovely golden colour, in a dish next to the beef. They were cooked to perfection. Sage and onion stuffing in a dish next to the potatoes, with a sprig of sage decorating the top. Roasted and steamed vegetables filled the table. Carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Peas, sweetcorn, runner beans every thing you could think of, It was on the table. I however didn't really like vegetables. Carrots and sweetcorn were as far as I would go, I stuck to them. On the other side of the table there were giant Yorkshire puddings, as big as my plate. I selecting my yorkie and filled it with roasted carrots, Potatoes, sweetcorn and of course a good helping of meat. When my yorkie was full I reached for the gravy jug. ‘Oh sorry Val, please help yourself.’ Tristan apologised. He reached for the gravy the same time I did. ‘Thank you, Tristan!’ I reached for the gravy jug and poured it over my dinner. Tucking in I started with my carrots, then moved on too my sweetcorn and potatoes. Then carried on with the rest of my dinner. Once I had finished I was stuffed. I headed up to my room. I opened the hard wooden door and entered my room. I was heading to the bathroom to take a shower when I glanced at the bed, I found a note neatly placed on my bed. ‘What the hell!’ I walked over, there was a note which read. ‘Hello Valentine, Im sorry for how things have been. I wish to make amends with you and your brother. I hope you can forgive me and your mother. She is a vampire as well. We would like to see you both as soon as possible to explain. Love Mum & Dad xoxoxo’ ‘What the hell! Why now ? Why are they getting in contact now? ‘ All these questions I was asking aloud. ‘I had the same letter.’ I span round to find Benji was stood behind me. ‘You got one too?’ ‘Yes, I don’t know what they want. But maybe we should hear them out.’ ‘I agree. But it is another problem for another time. We need to pass our finals and them we can think about meeting mum and dad Benji!’ ‘Yes, I think that is a great plan. Get some sleep Valentine. We have a long day tomorrow. You know where I am if you need me.’ ‘Goodnight, Benji.’ I shut the door and went for a shower. I stepped into the shower, my toes gripping on the tiled floor. I turned the tap, it was vintage and ceramic. It released thousands of freezing drops onto my face, darkening my hair and trickling down my back, making me step back and shiver. I adjusted the tap, slowly the water warmed I stood underneath letting the warmth of the water consume me. I grabbed my shampoo bottle squeezing a small amount into my hand, I massaged it into my hair making it foam, dripping onto my shoulders and sliding down my body pooling on the tiles below before being swept down the plug hole. I picked up the shower gel I squeezed it again into my hand and rubbed it over my body lathering myself in bubbles. I clutched my razor and shaved my armpits, after I washed off the bubbles I turned off the water and grabbed my towel off the rail, wrapping it around me. I walked out the bathroom towards my wardrobe, grabbing my pyjamas and got into bed. I thought about that letter, I analysed every detail of it. Mum was actually alive and a vampire. I already knew dad was a vampire. What do they need to be forgiven for? What needs to be explained? I have so many questions and no answers. I need answers. I didn't sleep much that night despite my need for it, I got a few hours but that is all I needed. Morning came quickly. I got dressed, putting on my gym leggings and a vest top, ready for my second day of finals. I walked into the dining room and grabbed a plate of sausage, bacon and eggs. I drank 2 mugs of coffee whilst waiting for the boys. A stack of non-disclosure notices laid on the table. Each had a name on, one for each member of the council. This was the part of the finals that I had been dreading, the part where students died. I signed not knowing what todays set of finals would bring.
