I woke up to a loud growling noise coming from above my head. I opened my eyes to see a red coloured wolf with sharp fangs eyeing me up like I was a piece of chicken, saliva dripping from its mouth.
‘Back off!’ I commanded at the wolf. Of course the red coloured wolf followed my command as I got myself to a standing position. The red wolf bowed down, seeming to know who I was.
‘Change’ The wolf changed into a young girl around 18 I would say, at a guess.
‘How did you get me to change? I didn't want to. I have been in my wolf form for years since I was 16. I like it better as a wolf, life is simpler that way.’
‘I don’t know, Im just able to control any supernatural. I guess it is a gift.’
‘What is your name?’ The girl asked.
‘My name is Valentine. What is yours?’
‘Valentine? As in Valentine Edwards? You know there is a prophecy about you? It is foretold you will be the one to set us all free. The one to unite the supernatural races.’
‘I don't know about that love. But I will do my best!’
I got up and walked over to where I had placed my backpack. I got out the bottle of water and handed it to the young girl.
‘You never told me your name!’
‘My name is Alicia, Alicia Jenkins. I am the daughter of the strongest alpha. The king of the werewolves if you like. Well, he was the king of the werewolves, he died when I was born, so I never met the man, not that it matters. No one knows that I exist, I went into hiding when I was young. Now I am being hunted, some people found out I was alive and have been hunting me ever since.’
I walked over to the river taking my shoes and socks off at the waters edge. I rolled up my leggings and started turning over more stones and feeling for more crayfish.
‘What are you doing? Have you lost your mind? What purpose does that have?’ Alicia asked.
‘No, I haven't lost my mind. I'm trying to find you something to eat. You must be hungry?’
‘Oh, don't worry about me I ate earlier. I killed a deer, I ate the whole thing.’
I stopped flipping over the rocks and climbed out the water. Went over to the fire to warm myself up, aiming to dry my feet in the process. The water was freezing at this time of night. A howl came from the forest, then another howl and another.
‘They are coming for me. The pack of rogues what killed my father. They are after me, I have to leave. You are in so much danger out here!’ She said. I could hear in her voice the pain and fear she was feeling.
‘How long have you been on the run for?’
‘4 years, I have been on the run since I was 14, and I'm no about to be caught now. It was nice to meet you, Valentine Edwards.’ She got up and started walking away. Getting ready to run.
‘Stay. They wont hurt you here. You saw how I controlled you. They wont touch you,
I promise Alicia. Stay. I can get you a place in the academy. You wont be hurt there.’
‘I can't put you at risk.’
‘You wont be putting me at risk. I can control anything I want. You will be safe with me Alicia.’
‘Ok I trust you Valentine. I trust you will keep me safe.’
The wolves got closer and closer. They surrounded the camp, with me and Alicia in the middle. One wolf stepped forward he was a huge grey wolf with black eyes that snarled at me. My lips curved at the sides, into the sly smile my brother feared. Alicia grabbed me arm, in hopes that it would protect her and for comfort.
‘Please don't do anything stupid.’ Alicia whispered in my ear. The wolf heard what Alicia whispered to me, a sound that sounded like a laugh came from his chest. He stepped closer, bearing his fangs at me. I crouched down so I was eye level with him, he noticed the smile on my face. It made him stop in his tracks.
‘Change’ I whispered at him.
He changed. He was sat naked on the grass in front of me.
‘How on earth did you get me to change? My pack here will rip you to shreds if you lay a hand on me.’
‘Oh they wont do anything to me.’ I said smiling at him. I saw what looked like fear in his eyes as he sat on the grass in front of me.
‘SIT!’ I commanded. One by one the wolves circling us sat down. Their alpha watched as each of his followers followed my command.
‘I have full control over you and every member of your pack.’
‘NO, YOU DON’T!’ He sniggered at me. I smiled at him, clearly making him uncomfortable. He didn't want to believe what his eyes were seeing.
‘Kill her. Kill them both.’ He commanded, panic erupting from his voice. All the wolves growled and stalked forward.
‘SIT!’ I ordered. Each wolf sat once more, following my orders. He looked at me confused.
‘How did you do that? What are you?’
‘You see I am no one. I don’t matter. Nor does what I can do. How I control you and your pack! Nothing matters. Unless we unite as a species, and unite the supernatural world, all living in harmony.’
‘I will not be living in harmony with anyone. You will have to kill me.’
‘That can be arranged’ I threatened. He looked scared, I thought I had better go easier on him.
‘Why are you hunting this girl?’ I asked using my stern voice.
‘She is why we are rouges, her family turned us out. She is what we need to kill. Get justice for everything they have done to us. She is the last of her line, It ends with her.’ He spat his eyes not leaving Alicia who was still stood behind me.
‘So you have killed all her family, Why do you need to kill her? You cant blame a young girl for the mistakes of her family. Hunt her for years. She was 14 when you started hunting her, nothing but a child. You expect me to believe that you guys want to kill a child because of her farther’s mistakes?’
The alpha looked at me fear still in his eyes.
‘Yes!’
I turned to the rest of the wolves.
‘Do you believe this too? Hunting a 14 year old girl for 4 years is ok? Are you still wanting to kill her?’ The wolves all bowed their heads as my eyes landed on them. They clearly did not agree.
‘GO! Don’t ever hunt her again!’ The circle of wolves left. Only leaving their alpha still sitting naked in front of me.
‘You are no longer an alpha. You are not worthy of leading anyone. Bring me your beta.’ With that he turned into a wolf and ran off into the woods. He returned 20 minutes later, me and Alicia were both sat by the fire. When the alpha approached with a blonde coloured wolf with blue eyes, behind him.
‘Change’ I commanded. Both the wolves changed.
‘You, alpha you are free to go. Do not return to your pack. You are on your own. Do not hunt anyone without my permission. If you need me you will be able to find me.’
He changed back into his wolf and ran off into the forest.
‘What do you want with me?’ The blonde guy asked.
‘What is your name?’
‘Cyrus, my name is Cyrus.’
‘Hello Cyrus. My name is Valentine. You are the new alpha of this pack. They are your responsibility now! I hope you make better choices than your predecessor.’ I spoke radiating dominance and wisdom.
‘Thank you, Valentine. I have been wanting this for years. I haven't agreed with the way that Robert ran things. I will do better. Help you bring peace to the supernatural world.’ He turned to look at Alicia behind me.
‘If you would like to join us young lady, you are more than welcome. You will be safe with us, safe in the pack.’
‘I don’t know, I will have to think about it. At the moment I want to stay with valentine. I feel safe around her.’
‘The pack will stay with you two for the night. Make sure you both are safe. I hope you can forgive us for out past actions, we were just finishing orders.’
With that he turned into a wolf and walked into the trees. There was a howl and the rest of the wolves returned.
We all slept that night. A decent night sleep. When I woke up I found that my head was resting on Cyrus’s stomach. I sat up. He woke up and changed form, he was naked behind me. I thought I would have got use to all the nakedness by now. It still made me slightly uncomfortable, I didn't know where to look.
‘You ok?’ he asked.
Cyrus must be in his late 20s, Tall, good looking. He seemed caring and nice.
‘Im ok thanks, I'm sorry for sleeping on you!’ I apologised.
‘You were asleep long before I crawled underneath you. I didn't want you to sleep on the hard floor. Im sorry if it made you feel uncomfortable. I don’t know what it is I feel drawn to you.’
‘I know what you mean. I feel it too.’
One of the wolves from the pack growled as Camilla entered the clearing, blocking her from getting any closer.
‘It’s ok, you can let her past.’ I shouted over to the wolves. They stepped back creating a path for Camilla to walk, as she walked past they let out a low growl. She reached the centre of the pack, where I was stood.
‘I see you made friends overnight. Well done dear. You have passed your final exam. You are ready for your task. Please follow me back to the academy.’
‘Thank you Camilla. These are my new friends. Are they allowed to accompany me?’
‘Yes, of course they can. They can join the academy too if they like, If not there are some houses in the woods. They can live there and treat the academy territory as their own. It will give us extra protection as well. Lets go find the boys. I'm sure your friends can help!’
We went off to find the others.
