Mission

I need to find a way to stop this war before we all die. I am sat on my cot in my tent. My tent was a home away from home, it's all I have ever known. I have my clothes neatly packed in an open top chest. I have a table next to my bed with an oil burning lamp on top. Oil seems to be only thing that we can get a lot of. ‘Think Val, Think’ I muttered to myself hunched over my camp bed. Standing up from the bed I started pacing around my tent. Thinking of a way to put an end to this war. My stomach started rumbling. I decided to go to the kitchen tent to get something to eat. I have never been able think on an empty stomach. The walk to the kitchen was quiet. it was late at night and no one was around. All the tents were glowing from the lights inside making it a beautiful place. When I got the kitchen tent, I pulled back the door of the tent and let myself in. The inside of the kitchen was a small tent with some gas cookers in, there was a young girl called Lola who worked in the kitchen. She must have been no older than 15. Lola was a short stocky girl with short brown hair that just touch her shoulders. When Lola was younger, she had an accident which meant she lost her leg. Since then Major has been trying to find something for Lola to do. I think this is the thing for her, she is a good cook, her food tastes amazing. I especially love her vegetable stew, she only cooks this for special occasions. ‘Hello Miss Valentine, What can I help you with?’ ‘Hello Lola, I've just come to get a snack, don't worry about me I will sort myself out. You get some sleep.’ I was in a good mood and the girl looks so tired. I sorted myself out some fruit which consisted of an apple and some blackberries, which were picked this morning. I made myself a cheese sandwich then I headed back to my tent. On the short walk back to my tent, I noticed that the glow was from some other tenants had vanished. I nearly walked straight into Major. Major was tall with grey hair and wore a cowboy hat. He was the one that looked after and prepared us for any attacks. ‘Valentine’ ‘Major” “ I have a mission for you, can we talk in your tent?’ ‘Yes, of course, Walk with me.’ The walk back to my tent was filled with silence. I didn't dare look at major as he was the one in charge of the camp. I didn't want to disrespect him. I focused my gaze on where I was putting my feet. Walking in a straight line. When we got back to my tent he handed me a brown envelope inside was the mission details. I opened it up and there was a picture of what looked like a castle at the top was the title Blue River Academy. I was being sent to a school. ‘Why are we being sent to a school?’ ‘We believe that living along side the others is the only way that we can survive. We want to start blending our young in with them. It will take a few years until but we all think that this will work.’ ‘We will be killed.’ ‘We have been in contact with the school and the school has agreed that they will put every precaution in place to keep you and the others safe. Pack your bags Valentine. You will be leaving the camp at 19:15pm. Blend in, make friends. Learn about them, their weaknesses. We need to know more about our enemy. If this doesn't work out. We need to know how to beat them. I have not briefed the others they will be waiting for you on the bus at 7pm. Waiting for you're briefing. They don’t know about the mission. You are in charge of the group and their safety. Any problems they will be coming to you. Do you understand that Valentine?’ ‘Yes, sir I understand. I wont let you down. ’ I started to pack my bags. Packing only the necessary items. Underwear was all sports bras and girls boxers. I had nothing sexy at all. In the Camp we didn't have any shops as such. We had a swap shop, where you bring clothes and other stuff you don’t want and swap them for other clothing and items you do want. I am hoping that the academy has a shop of its own. Where I can get some nice clothes. Something other than tank tops and gym leggings. After packing all my bags I made it to the bus just before 7pm. I threw my bags underneath the bus and climbed into a seat. Not all the team were here yet. We are taking 50 members all together. All the young members who are under the age of 25. Myself and Theo my second being the oldest. Theo was tall and muscular, he was good-looking and he knew it. He had baby blue eyes and blonde hair that swept across his forehead. Once the rest of the team had arrived at the bus I started my briefing. ‘Evening guys. As we know we are being sent on a mission. We are being sent to the Blue River Academy. We will be arriving at the academy around midnight tonight. We are being sent to try to bring peace between the species. There will be no starting fights with the other students. If you are picked on, I do expect you to defend yourself. Just don’t throw the first punch. We need to be clever and use our brains. Learn as much about the other species as we can. Learn their weaknesses, Talents, Motives. If this doesn't work out we need to know a way of destroying our enemy. Learn as much as you can about the other species find out what can kill them. Any problems please come to myself or Theo. Dorm allocations will be sorted when we arrive along with our schedules. Any questions?’ ‘I have one, Why do we need to go? We are at war with the other species?’ asked Maya one of the youngest within the team only 15 years of age. ‘The elders of each species have come to the decision that the war can’t go on. We are just killing each other eventually their wont be many of each species left. We want to try peace with them. We are being sent to merge with the others to learn about each other to become friends, not enemies. Is that the answer to your question?’ Silence filled the bus as we started our five hour journey to the Academy. Most of the team decided that it was a good chance to get some sleep. Those who didn't were either this music, chatting, playing games or sat in silence. I however decided that it was a good chance to get some sleep. I was woken up by a tap on the shoulder from Maya about an hour later. ‘Val, are we really going to blue River Academy? Not being sent somewhere else?’ ‘No Maya, we are being sent to a school. We are going to learn what we can and try to make peace with our enemies. If that doesn't work then we need to find another way to destroy them.’ With that Maya went and sat back down in her seat and got sleep. I fell back to sleep until we arrived at the Academy.
