9 - Calm down kitty

1252 Words
-Emma *Sunday* Klara is on her way to my apartment and I am getting changed to something else which shouldn't be blue. A notification on my laptop distracts me and I go over to look at it. I have a notification from the university about my exam last Monday. Oh shoot. Oh damn. I think I am going to pass out. I open the message and see that I passed it. "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!!! I DID IT!!!" I couldn't stop shouting and laughing. Oh, this is such a good day. Oh my God, it feels so good. Leyla suddenly opens my door and comes inside running, holding a pan in her hand. "What the hell is happening? Why are you shouting?" "Leyla, close the door. I am half naked!" "Sorry!" Jason says and leaves. Fortunately, he didn't come inside. "I passed my exam." I grinned and point my finger on my laptop screen. I thought Leyla was going to hit me with the pan, but she puts it on the bed and starts shouting as well, looking all happy. "You did it! I am so proud of you, Ems!!" She hugs me tightly and slaps my ass. "That wasn't necessary, but you are my girlfriend, so I won't get offended." "You should feel lucky I slapped your ass. I only slap big asses." She winked at me and left, taking the pan with her. Was that a compliment? I sure hope so. I continue to look for something to wear and I decide to wear my favourite jeans. Plain blue jeans and a white shirt that shows off my neck. I like my neck. Collarbones look really sexy. I hope Adam likes it. I surely want to look attractive, definitely, but not only for him, for me too. I deserve to look pretty. Do you though? I always hate the negativity I get from my own mind. It's frustrating and exhausting. Looking at myself in the mirror, I realise I want to wear high heels. They would look fantastic on me, wearing this outfit. It would probably be for the best if you wore flats. Yeah. My feet hurt when I wear high heels. I should probably wear the white sneakers. I bent over and took them out of the small closet and saw an envelope right behind the shoes. I have never seen this before. I reach for it and open it. Inside there is a letter from my mother . . . I recognise her handwriting. Should I read this? "I'm here," Karla shouts as she comes inside. I quickly put the letter inside the envelope and throw it in the closet. "Hey. That was quick. I didn't hear you knock." "I knocked alright. You didn't listen, that's why I came inside," she shrugged and fell down on the bed. "Oh my, Emma. You look super hot. Any special occasion?" "You mean an occasion where I flirt with my friend's roommate, who has finally shown some interest in me? No." "You said that right. Finally. What is his deal though? Is he a playboy? Has he brought women here before? Have you ever seen him with a woman before?" "K, chill girl. One question at a time, please." "Yeah whatever. Spill the tea. I want to know what I am getting myself into." "Jason is a really nice guy, but not much of a talker, that one. I haven't actually seen him with anyone before. Never asked or anything. He could have brought someone and I might not have heard. I'm not sure what to tell you." "Hmm. I hope he is a good guy and not a screw-over." "I hope so too. Just . . . be careful, okay?" "Of course I will. When was I ever not careful?" "Do you want me to count those times or do you want me to write them down for you?" "Oh shut up, Lancaster. As if you have always been careful yourself." I try to look guilty, but the wrong kind of guilty. I have lied to Karla about my love life. She doesn't know I am a virgin, or that I only had one boyfriend, who was also abusive. To her I am, Emma, who slept with my first boyfriend, Fred, my other boyfriend, Leonard, and a one-night stand, Luke. And other hook ups with whom I only shared a kiss or two. I don't want to be that college girl who never had s*x and is saving herself for her future husband. That is so cliché. So is your lie. So cliché. "We all have a past," I said to her and stuck my tongue out. "Oh, I sent an email to Rhonda by the way." "And?" "And nothing. I sent it to her before you came. Oh and since we are on emails, I passed my exam of last week." "The results are out? Are you being serious?" "Yeah. Thanks for congratulating me." "I am sorry. So selfish. Congratulations. Did you ace it?" "You know they don't show the grades. Only if you passed or not." "That's weird. A friend of my sister's always got to see her grade. Let me check my emails." "You do that. I am going to the bathroom to wash my face." She doesn't respond because, obviously, she is checking her emails. As I go to the bathroom, I listen to Jason talking to someone, loudly. It's a bit weird that we didn't hear him from my room. "She must have recently. That's the only reasonable explanation." He is talking about a girl with someone. I know it's none of my business, but I have never heard him talk about a girl before. "No, I haven't. It happened today for the first time." Today? "The only thing that matters is that I found her and I will make sure to never let her go." Who has he found? I hope it isn't what I think it is, because if yes, it will break my best friend's heart. I should warn her about it. Jason's door opens up and I freeze. Damn it. What do I do? "Hey you." "Jeez, Emma. What the hell? You scared the s**t out of me." Doesn't look like it though. "I am sorry. I was about to go to the kitchen, grab some water." "Okay," he says and walks toward the bathroom. "I passed. Emma I passed!" "Is Karla here?" Jason asks and I literally see his hair go up. "Uhm, yeah. She came a little early. Congratulations!" Jason was staring at the door, behind which Karla was, and he wasn't moving. What the hell is wrong with him? "Is everything okay Jason?" "Yeah . . . no. Uhm, yeah. It just took me by surprise," he smiled, but it felt like a fake painful smile. "I have to take a shower." He leaves for the bathroom, where I was supposed to be and done by now, but whatever. I head back into the room, and watch Karla lying down on the bed, with her phone on her chest and a big smile on her face. "Happy, huh?" "I am so extremely happy, I could just go over to Jason's room and kiss him." As she said those words, Jason started coughing. It was more like a choke. Did he maybe hear her? "Calm down kitty. Save some for later." "Oh you bet I will." I bet you will, but will he?
