I returned and started collecting the stones for the bridge. The actual test for Irene was after she returned with the prey. I waited for her with my questions and hoped she was ready with the answers. There was no way I would let her know I had seen everything.
“Prince… I caught a rabbit. Will it be enough?” She returned with the rabbit in her hand. “Uh… you gathered a lot of stones. The bridge is almost complete. This amount won’t be needed.”
“It is for the bridge on the other side. We will have to destroy the tree and make a run to the ground. I don’t know how this abnormality will respond after its core is destroyed. It would be better if we had an escape route ready beforehand.”
