I walked into the room hesitantly. It was massive and beautiful, more beautiful than my rooms in the Lucent pack. I took a couple of steps forward, my lips hanged in amazement as I admired the walls and furniture.
“I'll be on my way now,” George said, startling me back to the present. “An omega wolf will come to you and assist you if you need anything.”
“George…wait,” I called out as he turned to leave.
I began to approach him slowly as he turned to face me. Without warning, I raised my right palm and slapped him across his left cheek. George raised his head and smiled at me warmly. He definitely saw it coming.
“You tricked me!” I growled, clenching my fists in rage as I continued, “for a moment, I trusted you—why did you deceive me?”
George stretched his right arm and touched my shoulder but I swatted it away. “Forgive me, my lady. I didn't mean to hurt you…”
“I'm not your lady!” I barked, “the name is Amber.”
George gave out an awkward chuckle. He tried to approach me again but I took a step backwards, away from him.
“I need you to go back to your boss—whatever the f**k his name is—and tell him to let me go!” I growled, still clenching my fists.
“Well, let's say I do speak to him and he decides to let you go without signing that contract marriage, where'd you go?” George asked.
That question came as a shock wave. I was stunned and hesitant, trying to figure out what to say while George smiled, holding my gaze.
“Well…that's…that's none of your business, okay?” I snapped as my voice cracked. “You men are the same—all of you. Why do you feel you have the right to access my personal life?”
“Absolutely not,” George replied, taking a few steps towards me again and holding my left hand. “I understand exactly how you feel, Amber. I promise you're are in safe hands and no one is ever going to hurt you—”
“No!” I snapped, shrugging off his hand. “You don't understand anything! You have no idea what I've been through!”
“I'm sorry,” George whispered, but I had had enough.
I turned my back and faced the window as I yelled at him, “get out! I don't want to see you or anyone else!”
I kept my gaze steady at the window as I heard the door slowly creak open behind me. As soon as I heard the door shut, I knew he was gone.
I closed my eyes tightly and gave out a deep sigh. My wolf purred from inside me, concerned. Her name is Yara and she has never spoken to me before, because I had never made a full transformation. Most werewolves have their first shift between 14–18 years of age. Even Astrid had hers at 16, but I turned 21 last month and I still haven't had mine. I tried multiple times but still failed.
“Do you think Cedric left me because I'm weak?” I asked Yara and she replied with a soft purr.
I looked out of the window and saw the whole city from a bird's eye view. A group of gammas led by George's brother Ryan were taking archery lessons and a group of kids under the age of 12 were playing football on a nearby pitch. I watched for a while and sighed deeply.
“They all look happy, Yara,” I whispered to my wolf. “Do you think I should stay? After all, it's just one year,”
My wolf purred again and in a split second, I frowned. Others who have had a full transformation could speak to their wolf but I couldn't, since I haven't made a full transformation.
“I wish you could talk to me, Yara,” I sighed, my vision blurry with tears. “You're the only family I have now…”
I dropped helplessly on the bed, sobbing. My grip tightened as I held the pillows firmly while I cried. Memories of my rejection and betrayal narrowed across my mind.
I could still hear the words Cedric spoke to me on that night. I tried to erase them but whenever I closed my eyes, all I saw was Cedric's face. I couldn't help the feeling that my marriage to Oblivion was going to be worse.
“No… No, I can't stay here!” I whispered, wiping my tear-streaked eyes. “I have to escape!”
I paused for a moment before looking out of the window a second time. I thought about escaping through the window but I was scared of heights. I paced around the room, scratching my hair as I contemplated.
“I can't go out through the main door—his men are everywhere,” I mused out loud as my eyes scanned the entire room in search of a way out.
“We'll Yara, I guess the only option is to go through the back—” I said, "But I can't go out now because of his men.”
That moment, I made up my mind. I was going to escape at night and go through the back. Hopefully I might find a way out and be free from this prison.
“We're leaving tonight, I don't know where—but I'm sure it'd be better than this place.” I said in a calm voice as Yara replied with another soft purr.
“I just have to wait till nightfall.”
