Oliver's pov
Me and Robin still sat working, like slaves, behind our desks. Eyelids are slowly getting heavier and heavier. We get rudely awoken by the office phone right in front of my face. 'Ugh why?' I grunt out as I lift the phone. ' Hello, Alpha Benjamin speaking.'
'Hello Alpha Benjamin, from the sounds of it you are Oliver not Vincent.'
'Correct. And who may you be?'
' oh how rude of me i am Beta Woods from Bloodmoon pack and our pratrole have spotted some burnt out campfires and flashes of figures during last night's parole. We believe it to be suspicious. These are all located close to your board as well as ours. Alpha Foster thought it would be appropriate to let you know. You know, just in case. Ooh they just arrived there... 'They say that it is gone now when they go to check on it again. So just beware there might be a trespasser.'
'Thank you for telling me this, I will make sure to tell my patrol to take an extra look around where our borders meet.'
'Okay thank you Alpha Benjamin, bye'
'Bye'
Back to more office work. Today it's Carly's 18th birthday. Sadly me and Robin aren't allowed to go as we have too much work. Knowing that she has invited some of the people from school makes it more likely for finding her mate, and I can't help but hope that mine will be here as well. Not like I would know trapped in this office behind my desk. Soon the birthday party was in full swing. Eyes trailing away from my desk and the pile of work, to the window that looks over the lake side where Carly's birthday is hosted. Looking down on the people smiling, laughing, having a water fight. A girl I've never seen before catches my and Cole's eye, her baby blue splashed wet dress standing out on the vibrant green grass. Her bright smile, scrunching up her eyes. I gently opened the window now hearing more clearly the laughing and screams. Then when the wind blew through the air I got that scent again of freshly baked bread. Too busy smelling the air and watching the people having fun I didn't hear his dad come in until Robin coughed catching my attention. 'Why are you out of your chair?' Dad stalked over to me looking out the window behind me. 'Don't get distracted, these are important things you need to know.' Slamming the window shut. I walked and dropped into the spinny office chair that when I was little used to always see Dad in. how i craved to be just like him and to sit here, but now i have it i am not sure if it's really all that i dreamed it would be. I can't wait for monday to come around then i'll finally be free from this office, get to be with my friends and maybe find my mate. I might even be able to see that girl in the baby blue dress again. Cole perking up at that.
Cole quickly started growling in my head as Mia strutted into my office. 'Hello Ollie.' She purred, placing herself up on my desk, back to me turning her head to look at me over her shoulder. 'Shouldn't you be at school Mia ?' I asked making sure to keep my eyes on the paperwork to not give her any ideas. As she doesn't need anymore. She has clung to me since we were little, it's not a shock to anyone that she has a crush on me. Even though we are both eighteen, with her birthday being before mine, she still believes that the mate bond will kick in. But me or Cole don't feel anything but sympathy for her. She moved off the desk to come stand by me bending down to peck me. I swiftly wheeled my chair pretending that I needed something from my drawer. 'Mia I am really busy, I think you should leave. And get to school.' ' the blood moon pack will be there now more chances for you to find your mate.' I looked her in the eyes saying the last sentence. Her face is a storm of emotions going from confused, to angry, to whatever is on her face now I can't really read it, never been good at reading faces. Huffing she strutted out of the office but not before she turned around to give me an innocent smile and wave 'bye Ollie.'
‘You really need to talk with her and tell her that it’s never going to happen.’ Robin intelligently stated.
‘I know, I will.’ Rubbing my temples.
‘Well you better before you find your mate. I have a feeling she will cause some trouble.’
‘Yeah alright I’ll do it soon.’ Waving my hand at him, flogging the end of that topic discussion.
Once I had finished my work for today I managed to catch Carly with all her presents in hand in the pack house walking up to the upstairs heading to her room. ' Who was here yesterday?'
'What?' she said, turning her head around to face me, her brows creased.
'Anyone new?'
'Oh well there was this one girl, Bea, she is from the swap of the school.'why?'
'No reason. Was she here at your party?'
'Yes?'
'Baby blue dress?'
'Yeah...'
'Okay' 'Is that all?' 'Oh ... yes ... sorry' ' oh happy birthday!' 'Thanks' she turned her head back around and countineed with her ascent up the stairs. Jeez, I must have sounded like an i***t.
Sitting on the end of my bed in pure darkness. 'How can a pack have me for an alpha what can i do? Why am I scared of it all? I am just weak. No one wants a weak alpha.' I mumble to myself with Cole in my head denying all my remarks Falling backwards onto my bed, legs still dangerling, right arm over my face. Everytime i close my eyes I get a replay of the girl, who I guess is called Bea, what a beautiful name. 'Bea' whispering it into the darkness, Cole started to wag his tail. Her smile and laughter echoing in my head, making Cole get all restless. Making it even harder to sleep than normal. I've taken one of the pills the doctors prescribed for me, my sleepless nights or has he said it ' take one pill right before you want to go to sleep, it will help with your insomnia.' Although normally I have to take two or three, I am now debating whether to take a fourth one, in hand. 'Why won't they work?' deciding to go for a run like most nights when the pills don't work.
After running for a while I came to a stop outside a house I've never seen before. My eyes glued to the open french doors on the balcony. A gentle breeze made the thin see-through white cotton curtains blow out the open doors filling the air with the aroma of freshly baked bread. Wait, is this where she lives? It looks pretty fancy, that's good. That means that she has a good life. Curling up, in wolf form, in the crook of a tree my eyelids get heavy and I drift off to sleep that I haven't had in a long time.
