Chapter Two

Waking up to the noise of the children delights me every time , even though after years of waiting the moon goddess has brought my mate my way yet, it has already been decades that I have been praying for a capable mate . I know we don't get to choose who , or how our mates are made ,but I wish to choose and create mine , I want a strong wolf shifter like Jenifa, my betas mate ... A wolf mate , the moon goddess has for sometime now been matching us with humans . Humans can't add value to our existence as they have no way of defending themselves from attacks or ever healing from wounds incurred during war . For days nowy wolves have been feeling uneasy about the witches' attacks . This is why I need a wolf mate that can fight with me and be strong, so that I wouldn't be bothered if she might die from a single attack. Humans, to me, are pathetic beings. I stood up to go for a run out in the open. The good thing about the woods is that we wolves get to run wild without fearing that humans will see us, as they are scared of the paths that connect the woods and the main city. You rarely see any humans there. I ran in the open for quite some time. I decided to rest a little before heading back to the house to get some work done. When I smelled a sweet vanilla scent in the air, this delighted my wolf as it wanted to locate who this scent belonged to. My wolf howled into the air. I was walking towards this delicious scent when the scent. When I got closer, I saw a human figure crouching down as she was tired from a previous run. Was she being pursued? My wolf stood up inside my brain but I had to calm him down. Then I felt a pull towards the human lady, the scent was becoming stronger. Then my wolf did the unbelievable, it pronounced the human lady "MATE". That can't be, the moon goddess cannot be this cruel to match me with a human after decades of waiting. My wolf howled, wanting to go meet his mate, but the sound my wolf made must have startled the lady as she ran off towards the outskirts of town. So pathetic of humans to run away even though they are not in danger. "I cannot be mated to a mere human. I'm immortal. I am an alpha. The Moon Goddess definitely made a mistake." I said this as I walked home. I didn't have the zeal to want to run as my wolf had become quiet. Upon getting home, I met this same lady earlier. She seems like she applied to help Linda out with the cooking. I can't allow her to work here, not after what just happened back there. I opted to speak with Jenifa afterwards. "Hello, Alpha, this is the lady that would be helping Linda in the kitchen. What do you think?" I looked at the lady up and down. Definitely, I was making her feel uneasy, which basically pisses me off. "She doesn't look like a cook to me. Find someone else, Jenifa." But the lady looks back as to my sudden outburst. I could see the lady was on the edge of crying. This pisses me off as I walk away from the two women. I have never been so rude and blunt with anyone before, but this time it's different. I am angry that the moon goddess didn't see a strong, fierce mate like Jenifa destined for me. Not that I have any feelings for my beta's mate. She has the qualities of what I want in a mate. What am I supposed to do with a mere human who is even afraid of sounds without even confirming or seeing an actual threat? I was still thinking about this new development when Jenifa came into my office. "Alpha, what was that about?" I looked confused. "What was what?" "The way you spoke with the lady earlier, that wasn't so nice." "I know, Jenifa. I was just angry at something, my apologies," I said, looking satisfied with my excuse. "Alright, no problem. I already told her you were just joking. She will be starting tomorrow, since Linda will also be fully back. She will need all the help she can get." I nodded my head in response to what she said, leaving me to think about my ordeal.
