Mia looked at Bai Wei. Although she appeared disheveled, her delicate features could still be faintly discerned.
She also noticed the wounds on Bai Wei’s body and her tattered clothes, which made her feel a pang of sympathy. Glancing at Xu Mo beside her, she wasn’t sure how to respond.
"As long as there’s food, I don’t mind a lower salary, just enough to cover rent," Bai Wei said. She hadn’t noticed Xu Mo earlier, and upon seeing him now, she guessed that the department store might not actually be short on staff. Lowering her head slightly, her voice carried a hint of pleading—she had already tried several places.
Seeing Bai Wei’s disappointment, Mia felt reluctant to refuse and asked softly, "What happened to your injuries? Do you need to see a doctor?"
"No need, I’m fine." Bai Wei kept her head down and didn’t say much. She bowed slightly to Mia and said, "Sorry for disturbing you."
With that, she turned to leave. She could only try somewhere else. As she walked away, her steps were uneven—her leg seemed to be injured as well.
"Do you know how to cook?" Mia suddenly asked, unable to bear the thought of rejecting her.
Bai Wei turned back, a glimmer of hope appearing in her eyes, and she nodded. "Yes."
"Then you can stay, but the work might be varied. As for your salary, I’ll have to ask my father," Mia said with a smile.
"Thank you," Bai Wei replied gratefully.
"Come in and sit down," Mia said, stepping forward and extending her hand. "I’m Mia, and you?"
"Bai Wei."
Xu Mo watched as Mia helped Bai Wei inside, feeling a bit helpless. He wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad thing.
"Xu Mo, this is his younger sister, Yao’er. They’re both my friends," Mia introduced Bai Wei.
"Hello," Bai Wei greeted Xu Mo with a nod.
"Hello, Miss Bai. I work here too," Xu Mo said with a faint smile. Bai Wei found his voice familiar—it sounded somewhat like the "Hunter" who had saved her. However, the "Hunter’s" voice had been deeper and colder, whereas Xu Mo’s still carried traces of youthful energy.
She didn’t dwell on it. Naturally, she wouldn’t assume that a fifteen-year-old like Xu Mo could be the same person who had effortlessly navigated the casino and the underground fighting ring.
"Mia, why are you hiring more people?" Master Batu came down the stairs. Hearing his voice, Bai Wei quickly stood up, only to see the old man scrutinizing her.
"Dad," Mia walked up to him, holding his arm affectionately. "With Xu Mo and Yao’er here, I have to cook more meals and do extra laundry. It’s exhausting! Bai Wei can help me out."
"My dear daughter, our little shop can’t afford to support so many people," Master Batu sighed.
"Please, Dad…" Mia shook his arm playfully. Master Batu had no choice but to give in. "Alright, alright, but I can’t offer much in terms of salary."
