Willow POV
“Mom!” Willow burst through the front door of her family’s cabin, baby in her arms.
“Will, what’s this? Where have you been? Is... is that a baby?” Her mother met her frantic daughter at the front door. She took the baby from Willow. “Is this a shifter baby? What is going on?”
Willow removed her wet boots and squeezed out her blue hair.
“Mom, the shifter territory is gone. I found her in the forest, scared and alone!”
Her mother looked at her, confused while rocking the baby. “What do you mean, the territory is gone?”
“Like gone, mom, burnt down, no signs of life!” Willow took the baby back from her mother. “I’ll take responsibility for her, but she needs to be somewhere safe.”
Willow sat down and removed the wet blanket from around the baby. She was the oldest of 5 children, ready to find her mate and begin her life. This felt right for her, providing this innocent baby with a warm, safe place to grow up.
Willow’s mother, Celest, sat next to her and wrapped a dry blanket around the tiny, pink, sleepy baby. “Well, we’ll have to run it by your dad...”
Willow looked up at her, eyes pleading.
“What’s her name?” Celest relented.
“What do you think about Ivy?” Willow smiled. She’d always loved that name, Ivy.
Over the years, Ivy grew up with the Fae family. Their kindness and affectionate nature warmed her heart and brought her joy. Once Willow found her mate, she and Ivy moved into their own cabin.
They tried to get more information about what happened to Ivy’s pack, but shifters weren’t forthcoming with Fae folk. Her adoptive family shared what they knew of the pack where she was born, which wasn’t much. The Alpha and Luna were strong and loved by their people. They were peaceful, which made the invasion surprising to all the magical creatures in the area.
Once Ivy turned 15, Willow became concerned. Soon Ivy would get her wolf. The Faeries only knew so much. She needed to be with other wolves to learn and grow into who she should become.
It was a sunny, warm day. Ivy sat in the garden, memorizing the beautiful landscape they had created. Flowers bloomed, trees swayed. She couldn’t imagine a more perfect home.
Willow stepped into the garden and spotted her adopted daughter. She had grown so beautiful, inside and out. Her long platinum blonde hair floated in the breeze. Her light green eyes matched the surrounding foliage. Ivy could even be mistaken for a Faerie.
Ivy looked up when she heard Willow and smiled, but it did not reach her eyes.
“Hey kid, what are you doing? Willow sat on the wooden bench next to her.
“I’m just enjoying my last minutes here.” They found another pack not too far away. The Alpha and Luna only had one child, a son about the same age as Ivy.
They always wanted a daughter, so they agreed to raise her in their home as their own.
Ivy's family were concerned at first this could be the pack that destroyed Ivy’s home, but they used their magic to determine whether they were lying when asked.
“Ivy, I love you and truly only want what’s best for you.” She held her hand, fighting back tears.
“I know. I do appreciate it, and I’m sure I’ll appreciate it more when I’m older.” She giggled. “I’m going to miss you.”
Willow hugged Ivy, “I’m going to miss you more!” She promised. “And if you ever need me, you know how to call.”
Ivy nodded and smiled.
Before anything else could be said, a large black SUV pulled up in front of their cabin. With that, Ivy was off to Cedar Lake.
