Chapter 10 I woke up screaming. The nightmare felt real—the silver collar choked my neck, Caroline's laughter ringing in my head, and the crushing knowledge of being smothered by inches. I snapped a hand to my throat, relief waves coursing through me when I found nothing. I turned and saw the clock on my nightstand showed 3:17 AM. Great. Another sleepless night. Moonlight poured in from the giant windows, lighting up my new rooms—a room that was bigger than the whole basement where I'd been staying at Silver Pack. The king-sized bed's plush sheets and silky surface felt almost decadent to be sleeping on after all those years of sleeping on barely more than a glorified cot.
