Chapter 6
I woke up with a jolt, I immediately turned to the window. The message from last night — “Soon” — had vanished. Great. Either I was going crazy, or something weird was happening.
“CLARA!” Caroline's shriek made me wince. “Get your worthless self up here NOW!”
Awesome. Not even five minutes of peace. I dragged myself up, trying to ignore how the silver collar seemed heavier today. My ribs protested every movement, but whatever. Pain was just my constant companion these days.
The mansion was weirdly tense this morning. Guards practically sprinted through the hallways, and everyone seemed on edge. I caught snippets of conversations as I headed to the kitchen.
“— those claw marks were huge -”
“- Joffrey wants double patrols -”
“- something's out there -”
