Chapter 16 I woke up with a gasp and blinked rapidly as the sunlight stabbed through the curtains. The unknown ceiling above me swam into focus — wooden beams hung with bundles of dried herbs that filled the air with a sharp, medicinal scent. My head throbbed like someone had taken a hammer to it. “Easy there,” a familiar voice said. “You gave us quite a scare.” Sarah's face appeared above me; her hair fell forward as she leaned in. “How are you?” Sarah asked, pressing cool hands against my forehead. “Like I got hit by a truck,” I mumbled.
