Chapter 2 The restaurant was an oasis of luxury and romance. The walls were lined with dark wood paneling, and the tables were set with fine china and crystal. It was an extravagant establishment, with high ceilings and chandeliers. The tables were all filled with well-dressed couples. The lighting was soft and subdued, creating an intimate environment. Victoria was seated at a table in the corner, and she looked stunning. She was wearing a long red dress that hugged her curves, and her hair was swept up in a sophisticated chignon. She had arrived earlier than John. As John entered the restaurant, his heart pounded with both nervousness and determination. His eyes swept the room until they landed on Victoria, seated at a corner table, her eyes expectantly scanning the entrance. Her long red dress accentuated her features, and the soft lighting of the restaurant seemed to cast an ethereal glow upon her. As John approached her table, Victoria looked up, her polite smile faltering for a moment. "Can I help you, John?" she asked, her brow furrowing slightly as she tried to understand what exactly he was looking for at her table. "I'm waiting for someone if you don't mind." She added. John paused for a second, realizing that this was the moment he had both anticipated and dreaded. He took a deep breath and then said softly, "It's me, Victoria. I am Felix, the man you are waiting for." Victoria's eyes widened in shock, and she felt a sudden chill run down her spine. "What do you mean you're Felix?" she stammered, her voice trembling. "How did you even know that I'm waiting for a man named Felix?" John didn't waste a moment. He quickly pulled out his phone and showed her their text conversations, and the call histories. "It's all here, Victoria," he said earnestly. "I am Felix, the man you've been talking to all this time." Victoria's eyes remained fixed on John as he showed her the proof of their conversation. She scrolled through her phone, comparing the messages. Doubt clouded her face as she processed the overwhelming evidence. John spoke softly, "Victoria, I understand this is a lot to take in, but I had to tell you the truth." Victoria's heart raced, and her thoughts swirled with confusion. She had grown attached to Felix over time, and now, he was standing right in front of her with a different identity. "Victoria, I know I should have been honest from the beginning," John continued, his eyes pleading. "But every word I said to you as Felix was genuine. I've cared about you deeply all along." A moment of silence hung in the air as Victoria wrestled with her emotions. She couldn't deny the sincerity in John's eyes, but the deception had cut deep. She knew she couldn't be having affairs with her student. Amidst the noise of the restaurant, the faint sound of a live jazz band playing in the background became more noticeable. The music added an unexpected layer to the already intense atmosphere. Her feelings were a mix of anger, betrayal, and confusion. She had been drawn to Felix from the beginning, and now she was faced with the fact that he had deceived her for so long. "You lied to me," she finally managed to say, her voice tinged with both anger and hurt. "You pretended to be someone else, and I trusted you." John tried to explain, his voice filled with guilt, "Victoria, I never meant to hurt you. I love you, and I was scared that if you knew the truth, you would never give me a chance." Victoria's eyes welled up with tears, but she tried to keep her emotions in check. "The date is over, there's no need for you to sit," she said firmly, her voice quivering. "I'm leaving already." "Please, Victoria, just hear me out," he begged, his voice desperate. "I know I messed up, but there's so much I need to tell you." Victoria hesitated, torn between her anger and curiosity. She turned back to John, her expression still guarded but less aggressive. "Fine," she said curtly. "What is it you want to say?" John took a deep breath and began to explain, his words filled with sincerity. "I've loved you from the moment I saw you in school," he said. "But I knew you would never accept me as a student. So, I became Felix to get closer to you. It was wrong, I know, but my feelings for you are real." As John poured his heart out, Victoria's anger began to weaken. She found herself torn between her feelings for John and the betrayal she had experienced. Victoria sat down with John, her mind still filled with questions. She looked at him, her eyes filled with curiosity. "Why did you pay for my mom's hospital bill?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. John sighed, realizing he had a lot of explaining to do. "I didn't want you to be burdened by financial stress," he replied, choosing his words carefully. "I wanted to help." Victoria nodded, still processing everything. "And those expensive gifts you've been sending me, why?" John hesitated for a moment. "I wanted to make you happy," he said earnestly. "I wanted to see you smile." Victoria couldn't deny that she had indeed smiled at the thoughtful gifts he had sent, but she couldn't ignore the deception that had accompanied them. Her emotions were disrupted, finally she said. "I don't know what to do," she admitted, her voice breaking. "I need time to think." John nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Take all the time you need," he said softly. "I'll wait for you, Victoria." As Victoria left the restaurant, her footsteps felt heavy. She knew that John was her student, and the idea of dating a student went against all the principles she held dear. She knew she needed to talk to someone, to gain some clarity on the situation. With a deep breath, she dialed Sarah's number. Sarah answered on the second ring, her voice warm and concerned. "Victoria, is everything okay? You sound upset." Tears welled up in Victoria's eyes as she began to recount the shocking events of the evening, from John's revelation to their emotional confrontation. Sarah listened attentively, offering comfort and understanding. "Sarah, I just don't know what to do," Victoria confessed, her voice trembling. "I have feelings for him, but he's my student, and I can't ignore that fact." Sarah sighed, her thoughts racing as she considered her friend's predicament. "Victoria, sometimes life doesn't follow a neat plan," she said gently. "Maybe this is a chance for you to find happiness in an unexpected place. Give John a chance to explain himself. You never know how things are meant to be." Victoria's heart felt a little lighter after talking to Sarah, but her decision was far from made. She thanked her friend and ended the call, determined to find a path forward that felt right for her. As she entered her cozy apartment, still in deep thought, the doorbell rang. Startled, she hurried to answer it, and there stood Lisa, her twin sister, with a calculating smile on her face. "Victoria, darling, it's been too long," Lisa purred, sweeping into the apartment with an air of elegance. "I thought it was high time I visited my twin sister." Victoria's heart sank as she realized that Lisa's sudden appearance was not just a friendly visit. Her sister had a knack for showing up when there was something to gain, and Victoria Couldn't help but wonder what ulterior motives lay behind her sister's smile.
