"Don't cry, Mommy. I'm still here, see?"
Georgia's hands trembled as she cupped Kelvin's face, her lips quivering like they wanted to smile but couldn't find the strength. The hospital room was too quiet, like the walls were holding their breath with her.
"But baby, you" her voice cracked, raw from days of holding back tears. "You weren't supposed to wake up," you could have Georgia marvel quietly, "All the doctors said it would take weeks. You just had to prove them wrong."
"Surprised you?" Kelvin gave a crooked grin, weak but so completely *Kelvin* it made Georgia's knees nearly give out.
She dropped to her knees before the wheelchair, hugging him so tightly that the nurse in the corner stirred, worried she might hurt him. But Kelvin chuckled softly.
