Chapter Thirty-Eight Olesya approached Jay lying on the membrane floor. She aimed her weapon at the zipped-open doorway while she checked his pulse—strong—and respiration—clear. She removed the red goggles from her own face. She was dressed as a Preserver, which had served her well enough so far. Stepping out of the tube and into the tunnel itself, she peered through her monocular. Two figures were making their way deeper into the tunnel, toward the catacombs. ‘Stop!’ she shouted. They both froze. Olesya kept her weapon trained on them as she stepped into the darkness. ‘Lower your weapons to the ground,’ she said. ‘Hands in the air.’ One of the figures, narrow and hooded, placed a pistol on the tunnel floor, then raised both hands.
