The mirror Lies

773 Words
The mirror shattered— Not into glass, but into something darker. Shadows bled from the cracks, curling like smoke, creeping toward her bare feet. Seraphina wanted to move, wanted to run, but her body betrayed her. She could only watch. Her reflection was still there, even with the glass in pieces. Still staring back at her. But something was wrong. The girl in the shards wasn’t broken. She stood tall, dressed in black silk, lips painted blood-red. The innocence Seraphina had once clung to was gone. And her eyes— Her eyes weren’t human anymore. Gold like fire. Like hell itself. Is that me? Her chest tightened. Dante’s voice was low, calm. “You see her now.” Seraphina’s pulse thundered. “That’s not me.” Dante stepped closer. “Isn’t it?” Her reflection tilted its head, that sinful smile curling wider. Then— It spoke. “You already know the truth.” Seraphina’s blood ran cold. The voice was hers. And yet, it wasn’t. It was silk and venom. It was a whisper in the dark, coaxing her forward. “No.” Her hands clenched into fists. “This isn’t real.” The reflection laughed. “You were never meant to be a saint.” The words hit like a knife to the gut. Dante’s breath was warm against her ear. “Stop fighting it, Seraphina. Stop lying to yourself.” Seraphina squeezed her eyes shut. “This is a trick. A test.” “No.” Dante’s fingers skimmed her wrist, trailing up to her throat, forcing her to meet his gaze. “This is revelation.” She gasped as something inside her snapped. Heat surged through her veins, fire curling under her skin. The girl in the mirror lifted a hand— And Seraphina felt it. A pull. A connection. Like they were one. Her reflection smiled. “Let me in.” The room blurred. The shadows swallowed her whole. And when she opened her eyes— She wasn’t standing in the room anymore. She was inside the mirror. Cold. That was the first thing she felt. Not the kind of cold that bit at her skin, but something deeper. It seeped into her bones, into her soul, wrapping around her like a death shroud. Seraphina blinked. She was no longer in the candlelit chamber. No longer standing before the shattered mirror. She was inside it. A world of endless darkness stretched around her, the floor beneath her feet smooth as obsidian. No sound. No air. Only silence. Then— A whisper. "Seraphina." She spun around, heart hammering. The figure stood a few feet away, draped in black silk, its gold eyes burning like twin suns. Her reflection. No. Not her. Something else. Something she was becoming. The dark version of herself smiled, tilting her head. “Now you understand.” Seraphina’s throat was dry. “Understand what?” The other her took a step forward. “That you’ve been running from the truth.” Seraphina stumbled back, but the shadows moved with her, like they were alive. “There is no light left in you,” the reflection whispered. “There never was.” A lump formed in her throat. “That’s a lie.” The dark version of her smirked. “Then why are you here?” Seraphina opened her mouth— But she had no answer. Because the truth—the terrifying, gut-wrenching truth—was that some part of her had wanted this. Had craved it. The reflection reached out a hand. “It’s time to stop pretending.” The shadows thickened, closing in, pressing against her skin like fingers dragging her under. Seraphina’s breath shuddered. She could feel it. The power. The hunger. Like something inside her was waking up, stretching its claws, whispering that this—this—was who she was always meant to be. She swallowed hard. “I don’t want to lose myself,” she whispered. Her reflection’s smile was slow, knowing. “You aren’t losing yourself, Seraphina.” “You’re finding her.” Seraphina’s heart pounded as the mirror-self took one final step forward— And placed her hand over Seraphina’s chest. A searing heat exploded inside her, rushing through her veins like wildfire. Memories—flashes of her past—burned away, replaced by something new. Something darker. Her knees buckled, but the other her caught her. Held her. And then, in the darkness, she whispered— "Let me in." Seraphina’s lips parted. And for the first time— She stopped resisting. The shadows swallowed her whole. And when she opened her eyes again, she wasn’t the same.
