It’s been six months since the courthouse. My life hasn’t been the same. I started volunteering at a women’s shelter. I feel like I’ve made a difference. Jamie, Shirley and I have become inseparable. I’ve moved in with Jason. Things between us are perfect. I can’t imagine my life without him.
“Becca, you better get going.” Shirley says as I am typing up my list. I check the time. Crap!
“I hadn’t noticed the time.”
“Thought so, that’s why I came.” Shirley says shaking her head. I jump up and grab the garment bag hanging behind me. Jason is taking me out to dinner tonight to a fancy new restaurant. I get inside the bathroom and get dressed. It’s a light blue tight fitting shoulder less dress that comes to my knees. I loosen my hair and put on my black stilettos.
When I exit the bathroom a few of the gym patrons and Shirley is waiting for me. They start clapping.
“You look so beautiful.” Shirley tells me.
“Are you sure? It’s not too revealing is it?”
“You look perfect sweetheart, Jason’s jaw will be lying on the floor when he sees you.”
I head out the door and Jason pulls up when he gets out the car I see him wearing a tux. My jaw nearly drops on the floor as he walks to me. He is so handsome.
“You look so beautiful.” He says when he reaches me.
“You don’t look so bad yourself.” I smile.
Jason kisses me, the kind of kiss that heats up my body and makes me want to skip dinner.
“We better go before we’re late.”
“Or we could head home.” I suggest.
He chuckles, “You have no idea how tempting that is but first we eat.”
Jason opens the car door for me and I slide in. No matter how many times I ask he doesn’t tell me where we are going.
He pulls up to a place called, Mon Amour…
If I remember my French correctly it means my love. It’s quite beautiful I think. Jason gets out of the car and opens the door for me then takes my hand and I get in the car. The valet takes his car away. Jason leads me inside, it’s a small restaurant with no more than fifteen tables. There is only one other person inside the restaurant and I recognise her immediately. It’s Shelby; she is from the shelter I volunteer at.
“Shelby?” I say surprised.
“Hi Becca, welcome.”
I turn to Jason. He is smiling. He’s been amazing. He employs the women from the shelter or uses one of his many business associates to do so.
“Is this yours?” I ask Jason.
“Actually it’s ours.” He grins.
The kitchen door opens and Kate walks out wearing a chef’s uniform. Kate is the first woman I met when I started at the shelter. She used to be a chef but her husband’s beatings made her loose focus at work and eventually she got fired forcing her to stay with her abusive husband. Shirley got called to her house and took her away, she brought her to the shelter and we’ve been helping her get her life back and now Jason has bought a restaurant to give her a second chance. I could not love his anymore than I already do.
“Good evening , Rebecca, this might be a French restaurant but not tonight. Tonight we will only be serving your favourites.” Kate smiles.
I turn and throw my arms around Jason’s neck, “I love you so much.” I whisper in his ear.
He hugs me, “I love you more than words can express.”
Jason leads me to the table in the centre of the restaurant, he pulls my chair out and when I sit he takes a seat opposite me. I’m wiping away the tears. Kate has really come so far as when I first saw her. Selby too.
This night is perfect.
Kate serves us chicken, bacon and avocado hamburgers with fries. Once we finish eating the lights dim and music starts playing.
I feel myself growing excited. Jason has another surprise for me.
Jason takes my hand in his, “Rebecca, you are the most amazing woman I’ve ever met. You do so much to help others and expect nothing in return. You’ve overcome so much in life and you’re still standing strong. You’ve made me the happiest man in the world.” Jason says then stands up, he bends down on one knee and holds up a small box, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Rebecca Jones, will you marry me?” He opens the box. I don’t even look at the ring as I join him on the floor, “Yes! A million times yes.” I say unable to control my happiness. He puts the ring on my finger and I look down. It’s perfect, not too big but it has the biggest diamond I’ve ever seen on it. We kiss each other right there in the middle of the floor, both of us on our knees.
