EVAN SAWYER
"Come on in!" Stephen opened his room door for all of us, as he welcomed us right in front of the elevator. "I'm so happy James called."
"Oh the feeling is mutual, you have no idea." James chuckled.
"So," Stephen scanned me from head to toe. "My precious Evan."
"Let's, uh, not bring this up?" I murmured. "If the first question is whether I'm okay or not, the answer is yes."
"No." Stephen cut me.
"Yeah, I'm good." I insisted.
"But the office is not." He stood up and connected his laptop to the big screen.
He flipped all of the magazines headlines, posters, news flash, TV entertainment session, internet - every tool he could gather this information from. And while doing that, Stephen did not say a word. I guess all of us felt the tension; this office just received the biggest kick on its face because of me.
"This happened before." Stephen finally broke the silence. "With Miranda."
James nodded. "I remember Miranda."
"I know, any publicity is a good publicity. But the term only applies if we talk about YouTube viewers engagement. True, you guys are the talk of the town. I've seen the increase of your album's selling, better than last month." Stephen put his hand on my shoulder. "But not with our tour tickets."
The guys moved uncomfortably. At this stage, my heart has stopped beating. It was not easy at all to picture how such consistent gossips could affect our career, the label, and everybody in it. I felt as if I have put the reliability of hundreds of other artists under this label into question.
"I'm so sorry guys." I whispered, more of a choked throat. "I didn't mean to put everyone in danger."
"No, it's not danger." Stephen stood up. "And I think I got something in mind."
"Please." James nodded.
"A fake girlfriend." He said in short.
Everybody in the room had their own little moment of 'what?'. The twin brothers seemed to exercise it in their mind, since they both have had a long-time girlfriend. James was assessing the idea. Brent and Thomas bit their lips nervously but I saw them nodding in agreement.
"Guys, it's not-"
"It can work." James concluded the super short discussion on this specific topic.
"Well I'm not sure about that." I shook my head. "She, whoever she is, will step herself into a giant hole. She'll be the center of attention. She'll be told she's fake since the first second."
"No, she won't." Stephen said proudly.
"Besides, I can't think of anyone-"
"Shush, I told you I have an idea." He cut my words again.
