Chapter 3: What's the Problem?

1684 Words
No teachers behaved this way with me expect one in high school who was surely a nut case but other than him, everyone was just great. The fact that I was in college and this treatment at the very first day of your Professor was heartbreaking. I promised myself that I won’t let him get to me and hurt me this way. The class ended and I quickly picked up my bag in order to run away ignoring everyone. “Ms. Anderson, could you wait please.” It wasn’t a question but an order. I halted at my place still staring at the floor and nodded lightly. Guess; I didn’t want to be rude like him. I heard everyone leave when he pulled out his chair to sit calling out my name. “Ms. Anderson, come here.” His indifferent voice made me look at him. He was sitting like a king on that chair with a frown on his face studying me. I saw him closing his eyes shut and tight lips that screamed that he was looking down on me as if he didn’t like what he see. He felt disgusted! Swallowing hard, fighting the humiliations that was on the verge of falling down through my eyes; I went across his desk. “Yes si- Professor.” His eyes shut tighter as his Adam’s apple moved up and down making him tighten his jaw. His action only concluded that he was offended even by my voice like hearing it was a torture. I could feel being self-conscious and it was clear this guy just had enough of me. It made me lose my self-confidence. “Just… Mr. Martin!” He whisper yelled at me taking me aback. What’s his problem? “Look Ms. Anderson, you were day dreaming in my class and it was highly unacceptable! I thought I already told you that so you have detention tomorrow.” He said with high tone. “B-But you didn’t tell that beforehand, you said you are strict with the completion and timely submission of the assignments. I think it’s unfair Mr. Martin.” My eyes widened. Detention... What for? He is being illogical. “Just… Just don’t call me Mr. Martin!” he shouted feeling irritated. His icy voice shook me with fear like he would become violent any moment. That was the last before my breaking point. A lone tear shed out of my eyes as I nodded my head, quickly wiping it away. Taking deep breath to calm myself and staring at the floor, I mumbled ‘Okay’ before running out of the class. Hell! What does he think of himself? What is he even so proud about? Even though he looked unmatchable with the looks but that doesn’t give him any rights to behave this way with me. I ran to the gates concluding that I will avoid any conversation with him; no matter what. If it is required than I would never ever address him properly. He seemed to be irritated with me, with my actions and even my voice! I walked straight only to stop and turn on my heels back to the college. Two strong arms gripped my shoulder making me exhale in defeat. I already had enough for today. “Leave me please. I will be back after getting changed.” I announced but the hands didn’t loosen. “I said I will be there as soon as I am done changed.” I spoke through gritted teeth. The concern right now was to make these two bodyguards leave because I don’t want anyone to find this out. Nobody knows my family background and they take me for that ordinary girl who is struggling to keep her alive, which is true as well. They removed their hands as I turned to only get blocked by them. “Ms. Sorry, but we are bound by the orders. Please don’t make it difficult for us.” Mark said. “Yes Miss. Please come with us, we will take you to your apartment first.” Jacob interjected. I felt pity for them. It wasn’t a secret what Theo can do if they failed in their task. So, I agreed and went with them. When I was changed into my casuals but something elegant, we headed towards the Home. Anderson Residence Huh! I sneered at its sight. It was the most beautiful thing beating the exotic destination spots but it wasn’t that relaxing for me. I thought I was lucky to be born in a rich-family but we all have our own limitations. Jacob opened the door for me and walked dreading towards the house. “Boss asked to inform you to…” Jacob stopped in mid as I watched him curiously. “—to behave Ms.” He faked a cough and I just nodded. “Thank you Jacob but I can take from here.” I smiled at him as he stopped at the front door with pitied look on his face. “Sari!” I was welcomed by my maid who had been a great support in my growing up and I hugged her back. Another clearing of throat made me cringe. “Welcome home, sweetheart.” My mom said with a fake smile. “Thank you, dear mother.” I mocked her while giving her curt nod. Her jaw clenched and I am sure she wanted to say more but something stopped her. What’s happening today? In came my father who hugged me and took me inside. I don’t hold any grudge towards him for what’s happening but I am still upset. We seated at the dining hall when the door bell chimed and Theo rushed to get it. Cool! He didn’t say a word to me and he ran to get the door like he was expecting someone. I heard cheery voices of few more people when I was about to proceed with serving myself. My mother swatted my hand away glaring at me and gestured me to stand. I sighed and stood waiting impatiently for the guests to just get over with the whole ordeal. I needed to go. “Oh! Hello Mrs. Thomas. It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you.” Wait! My eyes bulged out at the sincerity of my mother’s words. She indeed was excited to meet this lady making me turn around to see who were capable to impress my parents. The glow on my brother’s face was something else when he glanced repeatedly at the young lady beside him. I smirked. All eyes fell on me and I quickly lowered my head giving them a small smile, welcoming them. “Oh my!!! Is this your daughter, Laila? She is really pretty.” The woman complimented me as I blushed. It was rare! “I agree with you mom.” I turned my head to see a boy few years older than me looking dashing with a killer smile. He had long brown hairs which were falling on his forehead as he raked his fingers through them now and then. His blue eyes were darker than the others and his face was soft and gentle with perfect features. My mom laughed and gently pushed me towards him. “You are funny Logan.” My mom said. “It’s my honor to put a smile on a beautiful face like yours and your daughter, ma’am.” He said smirking at me. What? Am I smiling? I scolded myself mentally and kept a straight face shaking hands with him. My whole attention suddenly went back to the dinner waiting just few inches away from me. “Please join us.” Theo said rushing to the chair beside him and letting the girl sit. This family is really something! They can make my family do things they hardly do. They talked through the dinner but I didn’t mind them till I felt uncomfortable. It was like someone was watching me. I snapped my head up only to find Logan staring at me with a sweet smile. I looked away blushing. Why does he have to be so obvious? “So Mr. Anderson, I take it that the children are ready?” Robert (Thomas) asked intriguing me. “Actually Mr. Thomas, I haven’t got time to discuss it with my daughter yet—” my father was interrupted by my mom. “Oh, it isn't required John. She is still young and don’t you remember she makes worst decisions in her life.” She laughed insulting me. Luckily no one else laughed with her. “Still Laila…” Dad tried but she interjected again. “No John. Do you think it will be wise to let her ruin her life?” My mom gave a stern look which made my dad shut. Ruin my life? Why would I even do that? Hello, I am sitting here, please don’t ignore. I am damn sure he didn’t stop because of her but he was trying to stop her from embarrassing me in front of the guests. “What is it dad?” I asked not giving a damn to my mom. “It’s nothing.” Mother gritted through her teeth and irked me. “Let me talk to her then, Mrs. Anderson.” Logan said strictly making my mom shut her mouth. “That’s not required, Logan. She is immature and we wouldn’t take any bad decision for her so, consider it as a yes.” Theo said with finality leaving no room for discussion. I saw Mrs. Thomas’s concerned look and Logan’s displeased face but I was done for today!
