Forty-ThreeBright and early the next morning, Celia's personal beautician puts the finishing touches on Elaine's hair and makeup. Elaine is subdued, stoic, and moves mechanically through the motions of getting ready for her visit with her father. “How's that, Mrs. Warren? I think you look just splendid.” “Yes. Very nice. Thank you,” she replies, devoid of emotion.
