Chapter 15

Aurora's POV I should have been thinking about my injuries. Instead, I was staring at Rio. He had just finished helping me out of the bath when he stepped back and dragged his wet shirt over his head, apparently deciding it was more uncomfortable than useful. My breath caught. Gosh. I had seen Rio shirtless before, but something about seeing him like this, standing in the warm bathroom with droplets of water sliding over his skin, made my mind completely forget what it was supposed to be doing. His shoulders were broad, his chest rising and falling steadily, and his dark hair was slightly damp from the steam. He tossed the wet shirt onto the counter and looked at me. I immediately looked away but it was too late. He'd caught me staring and was hellbent on making the most out of it. “You're staring.” “I am not.” I replied almost immediately. “I'm just, uhm…..” My brain stopped working for a split second. “Looking at the dresser.” A slow grin appeared on his face.b“That's a lie.” I hated how easily he could read me. “You're very full of yourself.” “Maybe.” He stepped closer and I felt the warmth coming from his body even before he reached me. My heart began beating faster. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice suddenly softer. I nodded. He looked at me carefully. “Does anything hurt?” “My pride.” He laughed. “I can fix that.” “How?” He leaned down and kissed my forehead. The softness of it made my stomach flutter then he kissed my temple, travelled down to my rosy cheek then back to my forehead. I closed my eyes when his lips brushed my skin again, and when he moved back, I found myself missing the warmth almost immediately. “Rio…” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Hmm?” I opened my eyes to find him looking at me with so much hunger and warmth in his eyes. “You shouldn't look at me like that.” “Why?” His hand came up slowly, giving me enough time to move away if I wanted, and his fingers brushed a strand of damp hair away from my face. “Because what?” “B….” I stuttered, heat rising up my cheeks. “Because I'm injured.” “I know and you promised to be careful.”. His thumb moved gently across my cheek. “I won't hurt you.” I swallowed. “I know.” My hand found his chest and his muscles tightened beneath my palm, and I felt his breath change. His eyes dropped to my lips. “Tell me to stop.” I should have, instead, I whispered, “Don't.” He kissed me. At first, it was slow and gentle, almost painfully careful. His lips moved against mine with enough softness to make me want more, and when I leaned closer, his hand settled at my waist, holding me securely without putting pressure on my injuries. I kissed him back, the warmth of his mouth sent a shiver through me. He pulled away for barely a second before kissing me again, deeper this time, and I instinctively curled my fingers into his shoulder. A quiet sound escaped me and Rio stopped immediately. “Did I hurt you?” I shook my head. “No.” “You're sure?” I nodded. His forehead rested against mine..“Then don't scare me like that.” I smiled breathlessly. “You're the one who keeps kissing me.” “You're kissing me too.” I rolled my eyes. “Maybe I like it.” His smile appeared. “Maybe?” I barely had time to laugh before he kissed me again. This time, there was more hunger behind it. His hand remained at my waist while his other hand cradled my cheek, his thumb brushing over my skin as our lips moved together. I could feel his restraint. He was holding himself back because of me and somehow that made me want him even more. When his lips moved to the corner of my mouth, I turned my face and caught his lips again. He made a low sound against my mouth and I smiled. “You're enjoying this.” “Very much.” He kissed my lower lip softly, then pulled back just enough to look at me. My heart was racing and his eyes had darkened. “So are you.” I couldn't deny it. I leaned forward and kissed him again. His arm tightened around me, careful but firm, pulling me closer until there was barely any space between us. The warmth of his body against mine made me forget about the bathroom, the others, everything. His lips moved from mine to my cheek, then along my jaw. I tilted my head slightly, giving him room, and his breath warmed my skin. “Rio…” He stopped. “Too much?” “No.” “Then what?” I opened my eyes. “I don't know.” He smiled against my cheek. “That's okay.” He kissed my forehead again, then my nose, before returning to my lips. This kiss was slower, almost tender and somehow it affected me more than the others. My fingers slipped into his damp hair and he groaned softly against my lips, and the sound sent another shiver through me. I pulled him closer and his hand steadied around my waist as my lips parted and his tongue found its way into my mouth and a moan escaped my lips. He gently picked me up and I knew where this was going next and I could feel the heat burn through my body. For several seconds, we forgot everything until the bedroom door opened. “What the hell—” I pulled away from him but he still had me in his arms when we turned in the direction of the voice to find Marcus in the doorway with Smith right behind him. Silence. Absolute, horrible silence. I stared at them, they stared at us. Rio looked down at himself, then at me, and I suddenly became painfully aware of what the situation looked like. He gently put me down but his hand still lingered around my waist. Marcus slowly raised an eyebrow, Smith covered his mouth, clearly trying not to laugh and I wanted the floor to swallow me. “Do you people not know how to knock?” Rio snapped. Marcus looked completely unimpressed. “Apparently, neither do you.” “Get out!” “We came to check on Aurora.” “She is fine.” Smith finally lost the battle and laughed. “Oh, she's definitely fine.” My face burned. “Smith!” He raised both hands. “I'm leaving.” Marcus glanced between us one more time. “You two are unbelievable.” Rio stepped forward. “Marcus.” Marcus immediately backed away. “I'm going.” “Good.” He turned around, dragging Smith with him. Smith was still laughing as they disappeared. The door shut and neither Rio nor I spoke then I started laughing and Rio looked at me. “You think this is funny?” “A little.” I laughed. He shook his head. “I was about to kill them.” I reached for his hand. “Don't.” His fingers intertwined with mine and he leaned down and pressed one last lingering kiss against my lips. “Fine,” he whispered. “But we're finishing that kiss later.” My cheeks warmed again. “Rio.” “What?” “You're impossible.” His grin returned. “And you're still staring.” I rolled my eyes but when he kissed my forehead before helping me toward the bedroom, I couldn't stop myself from smiling. Maybe being injured wasn't the only thing making my heart race anymore.
