The Shocking Proposal

“You don’t put your hands on me, you filthy thing,” Ruby raged, looking so vexed. Jasmine was too shocked to speak as she held her burning cheeks in pain. Apparently, she just wanted to get her attention since Ruby was backing her and obstructing the only possible route to the ladies. Almost half of the guests were now watching them, trying to figure out what could have led to such a hit. Without arguing or making any fuss, Jasmine squeezed through Ruby and Gerald, got into the ladies and slammed the door behind her. “You shouldn’t have done that, Ruby.” Gerald genuinely didn’t like what Ruby just did, maybe because Jasmine was the victim, but he knew what he disliked when he saw it and this was one of those moments. “She should have spoken up without putting her hands on me,” Ruby argued, her angry expression already clearing away from her face. Most of the guests had resumed their dancing and drinking. If Jasmine had retaliated, it would have escalated. Gerald reserved his reply when he saw his mother walking over to where they stood, “What happened, heard you slapped someone.” She had already started talking before she got to where they were. “It was one of the ill-mannered servers of yours, she has already damaged my mood to be honest,” Ruby responded, frowning without looking at Loretta. “I am so sorry about that dear, with what they’ve done to you, this might be their last job for Gerald’s,” Loretta responded. Just like he had thought, his mother was in line with Ruby, as he stood there, looking at both of them, it was as if they were mother and daughter. “That’s going too far mum, the slap should be enough punishment.” Gerald chipped in, it was actually weird that he was trying to save the chef that he just met. Aside from that, he knew his mother, Loretta, would keep to her word. “She needs to apologize. If she doesn’t, then my mother-in-law can do as she pleases.” Ruby's face brightened as she spoke those words in front of Loretta, who seemed a little surprised. “I think I agree with that, and why the hell are you fighting for an ordinary server? It’s so unlike you, Gerald,” Loretta responded. It seemed they had had a conversation about marriage, she thought. Just then, Jasmine came out of the ladies, her face was pale and anyone would notice at first glance that she had been crying. “Here she comes, the b***h,” Ruby announced as soon as she saw Jasmine, her brightened face reverting into a scowl. “You again? I should have known why Gerald was trying to defend her, come here Jasmine.” Loretta frowned, something was up between Gerald and this woman, and she didn’t like it. “Mum! What the hell!” Gerald exclaimed, he certainly didn’t like the fact that his mother was still thinking he had something for the chef. Jasmine knew what she was walking into, she might as well lose her job right there all because she touched a woman on the shoulder. Someone who was probably the same age as her, Jasmine, wasn’t going to kiss her feet if that’s what they wanted her to do. “Apologize to the lady, or you lose this contract you just gained,” Loretta stated, ignoring her son, staring directly into Jasmine’s eyes. Jasmine stood there for a split second, looking at the lady she had touched. To keep her job, she’d have to lower her pride because she had a handful. “Won’t happen again, my apologies.” Jasmine said as fast as she could, she didn’t want to even hear her own voice. “You’re forgiven, wouldn’t want to take away your source of income.” Ruby responded, with a victory smile on her lips. Jasmine excused herself immediately, walking as fast as she could, she entered the kitchen and almost yelled out in frustration. ‘f*****g billionaires think they rule the world.’ She murmured. The servers looked at her dumbfounded, and then continued their duties. …. “I need to take a breather outside, mum,” “Alone,” Gerald added before his mother could say anything, he walked away, leaving Ruby and Loretta to themselves. “He’d come around, he gets like that, I can see you’ve had the marriage conversation,” Jasmine said, shifting her gaze back to Ruby. “Hypothetically”, Ruby laughed. ….. Gerald wasn’t going out to take a breather, he was heading to the kitchen to do exactly what had been in his mind since he had that pudding. He had watched Ruby and Loretta discussing as he sneaked into the kitchen. He wouldn’t want his mother to keep saying things that would make him want to change his mind. There were two servers in the kitchen and Jasmine herself; they were all taken by surprise seeing one of the guests in the kitchen, well not just a guest but the owner of the event itself, however, only Jasmine knew that. “I would like a word.” Gerald said, standing straight with a small smile on his face and his hands deep inside his pants pockets. Seeing Gerald standing there with all his glory looking like a model, the masculinity and awe his presence brought, Jasmine couldn’t utter any word for close to five seconds. It was as if the world stopped for a while. “Yeah, of course.” Jasmine said when she finally broke the spell, and it didn’t just get to only her but the two lady servers too, they also resumed their duty as soon as she spoke, Jasmine wiped her hands on the apron she was wearing and walked up close to Gerald. It was now she saw just how tall he was, he would have to bend a little if he wanted to place his lips on hers. ‘What are you doing?’ Jasmine said to herself in her mind as explicit thoughts rushed through. “I won’t take so much of your time. I can see you’re quite busy. Sorry for what happened out there, you made the right choice, my mother doesn’t mince words.” Gerald began. Jasmine was trying to hold on to that serious expression on her face with all she got, she gave a slow nod, and then the most shocking words came out of Gerald. “I want you to be my very own private chef.”……
