It’s the night of my scheduled departure. The Bloodmoon has crested the Midgardian Mountains. The Oldmoon hangs above, a perfect sphere in the star-studded heavens. The Silver Twins align beneath the two larger orbs. The ethereal colors of an aurora scintillate on the northern horizon, glowing greens melding with soft blues and magical purples. Like on Earth, the aurora is caused by solar particles hitting the planet’s magnetic field. The effect is augmented by the field of magic surrounding Solera, which stems from the north pole, the Crown of the World. That place never made it into my books, but I know the lore. According to Soleran legend, that’s where the dragons got their lightmagic powers. Originally they were born with fire in their souls, in adherence with the Earthling cliché.
