10 The campus hall stood three stories tall, impressively clad in pale gray-brown granite with tiny flecks of mica sparkling in the sun. The voluminous tulip beds on either side of the well-worn stair treads lofted clouds of perfume in the still air. The words MacDonald Hall were chiseled into a granite panel over the entryway, and a small free-standing sign circled by hostas declared the building— “The chemistry department?” Dale said. Lash chuckled. “Would you like to use the campus computers?” Dale winced. “I think the kids are using the computer hall this year,” Lash continued. “We overlap them most years.
