Maylen pushed the door open, and the dim glow from the living room stretched across the doorway like an invitation she wasn’t sure she wanted to give. Lanry didn’t move at first. He stood behind her, breathing slowly as if one wrong inhale might shatter the thin control he had left. “Are you sure?” he asked quietly. She nodded and stepped inside. Lanry followed, but he didn’t cross the threshold completely. He paused just inside her apartment, hands tucked into his pockets, eyes moving around the room like he was stepping back into a memory.
