Chapter 14 Only after Orson shattered into a million pieces and the threshold collapsed in on itself did William let his containment field dissolve. It evaporated like mist, its momentary sparkle like diamonds. The rush of ghosts knocked him flat. William collapsed spread-eagle on the floor, breath leaving him with a whoosh. He stared up at the ceiling while sprites peppered him with kisses. The more mature ghosts floated around his head, muttering a litany of grievances against Orson. They had a point. Several, actually. “I’m sorry, guys,” he said once the air had returned to his lungs. “I’m so, so sorry.” The sprites, ever-forgiving, continued to nuzzle and kiss.
