The offer

Morning came too quickly. Amara woke up to the soft glow of sunlight pouring through the massive windows. For a moment, she forgot where she was. Then reality hit. The betrayal. The rain. Adrian. She sat up slowly, looking around the luxurious room. “This is real…” she whispered. After freshening up, she stepped out of the room, unsure of where to go. A maid immediately approached her. “Good morning, Miss. Mr. King is waiting for you in the dining room.” Waiting for her? Her heart skipped. Amara followed the maid and soon found herself standing in a grand dining area. Adrian was already seated, calmly reading something on his tablet. He didn’t look up. “Sit.” No greeting. No smile. Just command. Amara frowned but sat anyway. “Did you sleep well?” he asked, still not looking at her. “Yes,” she replied. “Better than expected.” “Good.” A brief silence followed before he finally placed the tablet down and met her eyes. Sharp. Intense. Unreadable. “I have a proposal for you.” Amara blinked. “A proposal?” “Yes.” She crossed her arms. “I’m listening.” Adrian leaned back slightly. “I need a woman.” She choked on her breath. “Excuse me?!” “For a contract,” he added calmly. She narrowed her eyes. “You should really learn how to phrase things.” He ignored that. “My family is pressuring me to get married.” “And that concerns me how?” “You will pretend to be my girlfriend.” Silence. Amara stared at him like he had just lost his mind. “You’re joking.” “I don’t joke.” She let out a short laugh. “Let me get this straight you picked a random girl from the street and want her to act as your girlfriend?” “You’re not random,” he said. Her laughter faded. “What does that mean?” “I know who you are,” he replied simply. Her heart skipped. “What?” “Your name is Amara. You were engaged to Daniel Wright. Or should I say… you were betrayed by him last night.” Her face went pale. “How do you know that?” “I make it my business to know things.” Amara stood up. “This is crazy. I’m not doing this.” She turned to leave “Five million dollars.” She froze. Slowly… she turned back. “…What?” “I’ll pay you five million,” Adrian said calmly. “For three months.” Her heart started pounding. Five million? That was life-changing money. “You’re serious?” she asked. “Very.” Amara swallowed hard. “No,” she said after a moment. Adrian raised an eyebrow. “No?” “I’m not that desperate,” she replied, even though her voice lacked confidence. He stood up slowly and walked toward her. Each step made her more nervous. “You lost your fiancé.” Step. “You have nowhere to go.” Step. “And no financial stability.” Step. He stopped right in front of her. “You are desperate.” Her chest tightened. “I still have my dignity,” she whispered. Adrian studied her face carefully. Then, unexpectedly, he said “Good.” She blinked. “What?” “I don’t want someone cheap.” Her eyes widened. “Hey” “Think about it,” he cut in. “Three months. You help me deal with my family, and you get paid.” He paused, then added softly “And maybe… you get something more valuable.” Her breath caught. “What do you mean?” He leaned in slightly. “A fresh start.” Amara looked away, her thoughts racing. Money. Freedom. A chance to forget everything. But at what cost? “I need time,” she said finally. Adrian nodded once. “You have until tonight.” As Amara walked away, her heart was in chaos. She knew one thing for sure accepting this deal would change her life forever. And somewhere deep down… She was already tempted.
