I pick up the old battered phone and put coins into the slot, i freeze and just stare at the numbers. who should i call? there's only one number i know, the alphas office but i really don't want him screaming at me trying to burst my eardrums down the phone.
I sigh then remember Connie! My childhood best friend! Even though we haven't spoken in years we were always there for each other, right up until my father made sure i had no free time for anything or anyone anymore.
When i wasn't sent out on missions or training i was ordered to the kitchen to cook or to clean the pack house.
There was always something that needed doing to keep me busy even when my body was screaming in pain from beatings or injuries i was never allowed to stop, i would be scrubbing floors with broken ribs or seeing to the grounds with fractured bones.
I smile as i start to dial her old number, i hope she hasn't changed it. It rings and rings and finally she picks up before the call clicks off, "Hello Northfolk Sperm back, you whack it we pack it, how can i help?" she answers in jest at the unknown number.
I cant help but burst out laughing until tears come to my eyes, "Jamie? is that you?" I smile wide as she still remembers my laugh after all this time.
"Err yeah its me. I seem to have got myself in to some trouble" a giggle comes from the headset and a quick reply of "when don't you? What do you need?"
I let out a sigh of relief and tell her where i am. "I'll be there in a shake of a rabbits tail" with that the phone goes dead.
I counted the rest of the cash and head into a cafe, my eyes scan the menu board trying to work out what i want, Luckily Tank wasn't tight and handed me much more than i needed for a call.
The server comes to the counter and i order a coffee and two bacon rolls, after paying i head over to a seat by the window to wait.
I take my time looking around the street and see Tanks truck pull off at the end of the road, he must of waited for me to make a call before leaving, i roll my eyes at the thought of him actually giving a s**t - more likely he had a call or something that delayed him.
I go over the last 24 hours in my head trying to make some sense of how i could be so careless to get myself caught, the screams from the scout echo in my head as Tank carved into him, a shudder takes over my skin at the memory.
The young server appears bringing me back into the moment, with my order in her hands she places it on the table wiping any moisture from her fingers onto her apron while asking if i needed anything else.
I decline and thank her with a forced smile as she turns to leave me to my meal. Done with my food i wait while sipping on my coffee staring out into the busy street when a Pink land rover pulls up next to the pay phone, a tall brunette climbs out and looks around with her lips tight.
I'd recognise her anywhere! i grabbed my coffee and rushed over to the lost looking woman "Connie" i shout as I approached. she gives a wide smile and holds her arms out, nearly suffocating me with a hug i try to pull back before i spill the last of my coffee on her perfectly matched outfit.
"Thank you so much for saving me! I really didn't want to call my dad" she raises a brow with a smirk "Anytime! No one wants to call him for anything especially help" she replies with a knowing look, she opens the door to the most girly car I've ever seen as i run around to the passengers side, passing a bin i throw in my cup and climb in.
We talk about the old times and sing along to the radio. i inform her of Tank and whats been going on with the Silvermoon pack.
Her father is our pack doctor and has always been really busy throughout our childhood, we became close at school, more like sisters than friends.
She was my family, the only person i had to stand beside me. Connie would help me clean up my wounds as a kid, making sure they didn't get infected as i didn't have my Lycans help with healing.
She would steal bandages and sterile wipes from her fathers office to bandage me up. when we weren't at school we spent most of our time in the woods climbing trees or making Dens.
When her mother died in a rouge attack she retreated into herself, i would spend hours holding her while she cried and expelled her pain.
She was always popular but pulled away from everyone after her loss. Connie just wanted to be left alone but i wouldn't let her, not after everything she did for me i couldn't let her lose herself in grief.
Things picked up for her after she had her first shift. her Lycan was beautiful, tall - with her long legs it wasn't surprising, her dark fur shining in the moons light, it was just us, she didn't tell her father she had started showing signs of her change.
We sneaked out on the next full moon into the forest surrounding our pack when the first crack of her bones signalled her change. it was followed by another and another as she screamed, her body taking its new powerful form.
It was amazing and something i never got to experience.
It wasn't long after i left school that my father made sure i had no free time and with that the friendship was lost, the one person i could rely on i could no longer see. i was alone.
As we pulled up to the gates of our land a rush of anticipation rolled over me. my hands started to sweat i really didn't want to see him, i didn't need more pain.
I bit my cheek as Blake - one of our guards, came up to my window with a sympathetic look and informed me my father had been looking for me and I needed to head to his office immediately. i nod as he walks away to open the gates, Great!
I say goodbye to Connie and thank her again for picking me up, she gives me a long heartfelt hug and reminds me she'll always be there even when my father tries to keep us apart.
I give her one last squeeze as i smile at her and turn to walk into the pack house.
