Monday morning couldn’t have come any faster. My whole entire weekend got shot to s**t. After waking up Saturday morning to the worst kind of headache, I spent all of Sunday playing catch up with homework and prep for the week.

Walking into the school, I made my way towards my locker. As I rounded the corner, I saw someone leaning up against it, but with their back to me.

What the hell...

Making my approach, I cleared my throat “ahem..”

The person in question spun around to greet me “Oh hey Cleo” To my surprise, I vaguely remember him... but I just couldn’t quite put my finger on his name.

“Heyy..”

Kyle... No no, that’s not right... Chris? Colton?

“Haha, it’s Kaden”

“Right! I’m sorry! From the party right?”

Why do I feel like I’m supposed to remember something?

“Yeah! To be fair, you were pretty wasted. How are you feeling today?”

“This is true. Uhh I’m pretty good today, much better than the weekend, that’s for sure. Umm, not to be rude or anything, but could you please move over? You’re kinda leaning on my locker” I replied awkwardly.

“Oh s**t, my bad! Sure thing” he answered, moving so I could get what I needed.

“So uh, I know we don’t know each other, but I was wondering if maybe we could hang out or something” he asked, looking at me eagerly.

Closing my locker and zipping my bag, I turned to him to answer “Oh, uhh.. “

“No she can’t, we have tryouts, remember” came from behind me. 

Turning around, I came face to face with Izzy, seeming to come to my rescue at just the right time. Looking back to Kaden, I said “s**t, that’s right. Sorry, I have tryouts after school today”

“Oh that’s no problem. I could hang around and wait, then we could hang after?”

Holy s**t, what is it with this guy?

“Sorry, I don’t think that’s going to work out. I have a heavy course load, I’m sure that I’m going to have a pile of work to get done tonight” I answered, trying my best not to leave room for further invitation.

“Fine. Whatever. I’m sure I can find something or someone else to do. Come find me when you’re ready to stop making excuses, I don’t need this s**t” He spat, turning on his heal and taking off around the corner.

“What in the actual f**k just happened?” 

“Girl, that guy is fit for a straight jacket. Please stay away from him” Izzy answered.

“Something tells me this isn’t the first time hearing that” I mumbled. Shaking my head, I made my way to class.

After grabbing my lunch, I make my over to the table and pull out a chair.

“... yeah, he was being a total psycho this morning. I don’t know what might have happened had I not spotted them talking and interrupted”

“He asked her to hang out? Seriously?”

“I swear I’m not lying. Not only that, but pushed still after she said no.When she declined again, he went all jackal and Hyde and stormed off”

Normally I wouldn’t care about the gossip at the table, preferring to eat my food and just be present, but today something told me to join the conversation.

“What are you droning on about?” I asked.

There was an awkward silence that fell following my question. Izzy looked at Corbin and they exchanged a look before deciding to answer me.

“Umm, well... Damn it. Kaden was talking to Cleo this morning and then went 0-100 when she declined hanging out with him” She responded nervously.

For f**k sakes, what the f**k was this dudes problem? He doesn’t even know her.

“Are you shitting me right now? Clearly this mother f**ker didn’t get the memo on Friday when I told him to leave her alone” I replied, anger and irritation clear in my voice. Before I could say anything else, Cleo pulled out the chair next to Izzy and sat down.

“Who needs to leave who alone?” She asked.

“Kaden. Kaden needs to leave you alone. I know you probably don’t remember me telling you this, but I beg you to stay away from him, dude is unstable” I pleaded.

“Well after this mornings display, I can tell you that there’s nothing to worry about. I can’t be bothered to be around someone like that, bro is loco” She answered.

Satisfied with her answer, I nodded in reply. The rest of lunch flew by without anything else popping up. As the bell rang, I grabbed my bag and turned to Cleo and asked “What’s your next class? I want to walk you if that’s cool”

Something was nagging at me and for some reason I felt it would be best to make sure she made it to class without incident.

“I have calculus next and sure” she said with a shrug.

“Okay cool, not far from where I need to be next”

Exiting the cafeteria, we made our way to her class. Walking up the the classroom, I said my goodbyes and made to leave to my physics class.

“Hey Osiris?”

“Yeah?”

“Thanks” she said with a smile.

“No problem. I just wanted to make sure you made it here without any problems” I replied with a smile of my own. She then turned and walked into class, which was my cue to book it to the science hall. 

On my way, something still didn’t quite feel right, it felt as if there was someone watching me. Looking over my shoulder, I noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Shaking my head, I walked into class.

The rest of the day seemed to go by without incident. Tryouts had just ended, Izzy and I made our way to the change room to grab our bags, change, and go home. After changing out of my sweaty clothes, I went looking for the headband I had been wearing all day.

“Hey, did you happen to pick up my headband by mistake when you changed earlier?”

“I don’t think so, but I’ll check. Why?”

“I can’t find it in my bag” I said with a frown.

Riffling through her bag, Izzy resorted to taking everything out. Once it was all said and done, we looked over the items and the headband was nowhere to be found.

“Huh, that’s weird. I hope it turns up. Maybe someone else picked up by accident?” She said.

“I don’t know, but I hope so at the least. Oh well, it’s not that big of a deal, still strange though”

Giving up on the headband, we left the school and climbed into my car.

“Food then home work?” I asked.

“F**k yes, I’m STARVING” she said, just as he stomach let out this biggest rumble.

Laughing, I started the car and took off.
