After that, the newlyweds discussed more mundane things— like how their daily lives would be from today onwards. Also, they discussed other small things people who're getting to know each other talked about. They talked about their likes and dislikes, their favorite food, color, movie, and so on.
"Anything else?" Jacques asked afterwards, and he watched as Alex's face became serious again.
"I don't want you to be condescending. I dislike people treating me like some ignorant kid," she said. "I'm not very smart, but I always try to do my best in whatever I do."
"Of course, I'd never treat you like a child," he agreed completely.
How could he? He thought she's very much an adult, as he scanned the whole of her body discreetly— from her beautiful face that looked not of this world, to those sexy clavicles that were peeking out from the bathrobe.
See? Kids couldn't have clavicles as sexy as those. He let his face remain expressionless as he continued studying her, so he wouldn't scare his wife with his X-rated thoughts. But Alex mistook it as something else.
"You're doing it again," Alex stated and it was Jacques' turn to frown.
"Doing what?" the confused husband asked and she pointed a finger at him.
"You treat me like a child. You just agreed to shut me up, right?"
"I'd never do that." He was shocked, and she looked more displeased.
"But you – "
"I'm just being agreeable. Is that bad?" he cut her off, which was a bad move.
"See? You don't let me finish my words. You interrupt my thoughts so that I forget about them."
"But I was just trying to explain my side because clearly, you misunderstood me. I would have been scolded for something so untrue if I let you continue, you know," he replied, looking a bit offended.
"Also, the wedding day," she continued, and he sighed.
"Yes, it's totally unplanned, unexpected— that's why I asked if you want to have another ceremony." For him, it was a good day, though, as it was the day before his birthday.
"We don't need it," she snapped and then pouted.
"But I feel we need to have one since you're obviously upset we got married not according to your plans," he reasoned.
"No need to spend money for another ceremony." Alex already totally forgot why she's being difficult but she felt like being stubborn about it.
"Are you worried about the cost? Don't. Money is not a problem. If there's something that can ease your mind— something that will make you feel happy in this marriage, then let's get it," he said with sincerity.
He was Jacques Henry Cole, the new President of JC Corp, the biggest among the multinational enterprises in South Korea with branches around the world. Spending on his wife's definitely no trouble at all.
"I already told you, I don't care about money— especially your money," she snapped as she rolled her eyes.
Jacques wanted to do the same. He didn't believe anyone could be uninterested in money, especially his.
"It doesn't matter what you think about my money. As my wife, of course, I will give you what you want. If you want another ceremony, then so be it. I think I'm being considerate."
"Considerate my ass," Alex muttered under her breath, but it was loud enough for Jacques to hear.
"Are we having our first marital spat?" he inquired, making Alex stop and realize he was right.
She would deny it of course. Having a marriage spat over inconsequential topics such as the wedding date sounded childish. She just up and complained about being treated like a child earlier too.
Ooops.
"Ehrm…no," she answered hurriedly, her scowl fading as she did. "But aren't you at least a little bit upset that we got married but can't remember doing it?" she asked curiously now and watched as Jacques gave her a sheepish smile as he scratched the side of his head.
The man looked more like a handsome, bashful boy that Alex found a little endearing. But when that little smile turned to a full grin, the handsome boy suddenly transformed into a gorgeous devil that she had to blink in order to understand why her heart suddenly jumped in her chest.
Whoa…
Calling Jacques handsome was an understatement. Here was a man most men envied from his striking features, tanned skin which Alex considered very manly, powerful limbs and a huge bulge in between his thighs.
Zucchini! Eggplant! Cucumber!
Ehrmmm… That's to be envied too right? She reasoned as she pouted.
"Actually, now that I've seen the pictures, I can somewhat remember bits and pieces of last night's wedding ceremony," Jacques confessed with a chuckle. "I can remember you clinging onto me as we stood at a podium or something."
"What? Who's clinging to whom?" Alex asked with an incredulous expression on her face.
There was no way in hell she'd ever do what he said she did. But then the pictures made her a little uncertain.
"But it's true," he countered with another disarming smile and she found her heart and stomach doing somersaults while pom pom dancing.
What? When someone as good-looking as that flashed his pearly whites at her it's normal to react, right? It's totally understandable that her heart would go doki-doki— her tummy would tighten into a knot and make her undies fall off even if she's not interested, right?
I mean even women who aren't interested knew how to appreciate this type of species right? Right?
Alex told herself that in half-panic as Jacques reached out for the DVD in the package and padded across the room to put it in the player. Like a giddy schoolboy, her husband returned to his seat with the remote control in his hand and pushed the play button.
"What are you doing?" Alex asked, her heart racing more than a hundred beats per minute.
She was hyperventilating she knew, and it was all because of her sudden nervousness.
"Since you're complaining you can't remember a thing about our wedding, we'll watch it together," Jacques answered eagerly as the screen came to life, making her swallow hard.
Why was it that somehow, she had this feeling she wouldn't like what she'd see in a few minutes? She wondered as she stared at the television and readied herself for the inevitable.
