We proceed up the stair case following the Beta, Dakota. The other pack members who were with us stayed and blocked the front door.
Entering the house I am taken aback. Whichever pack this is, they are rich. The inside is huge, and decorated with white and gold accents all over the first floor. The main room is what we first stepped into. White leather chairs and couches, with a custom wood slab table in the middle. Gorgeous. Dakota has us sit here. I take a chair opposite Eric where my back is to a wall and I can see our surroundings. Planning my escape. Dakota disappears for a minute and proceeds to sit down near Eric.
He glances at me and then talks to Eric. “He was in a meeting, he’s not very happy. The secretary will come fetch us when he’s done.”
“What’s new? The Alpha happy?” Eric laughs. “All will be well my friend, he knows I would not jeopardize the future of either of our packs.”
With that, I see some blonde with pin straight hair, a pink pant suit and probably the highest high heels I’ve seen in my life. “He will see you now.” She says to Eric. “You and the Beta only. Leave the rogue.” She bows her head and walks away. When will these people learn my name for moon goddess sake. I am not a rogue and I pose no threat. I huff. Eric and Dakota stand. Eric sends me a smile and wink over his shoulder as they to disappear down the hall.
This is it. My chance to escape. But I can’t. Eric has been the only kind one I’ve met in a long time. The possibility of having somewhere to call home compels me to stay in my seat.
All of a sudden I hear yelling “HOW DARE YOU BRING A ROGUE TO MY TERRITORY. WITH NOT A THOUGHT TO HOW IT MAY AFFECT MY PACK.” Well, this isn’t going so well. I start to get up when I hear Eric’s calm voice.
“Kane, we are friends. I have thought about this and I know she means no harm to anyone. She needs a home. Trust me on this. She will be on my clans turf unless work brings her elsewhere. You will be notified.”
“One complaint, one! And the rogue is gone. If she hurts anyone I will kill her myself.”
I gulp. Doesn’t he sound like a peach.
“All will be well my friend. Thank you.” I hear a door open and footsteps come down the hall. There is Eric. I feel relieved.
“Time to go louve.”
“I don’t have to meet him?”
“No, let’s save that trouble for another day. I’m ready to get home.” He smiles and hooks my arm through his.
“Well ok then.”
As we leave I see Dakota lingering in the hallway. Was that almost a smile on his face? Maybe the beta isn’t so mean after all.
Eric leads me through the kitchen at the back of the house and out the back door. This seems to lead to the village.
We walk out on what appears to be the only road. As if on que, I see the car we were in before our little endeavour, driving towards us. “Thank you Moon Goddess, I don’t think I could walk back.”
Eric begins laughing beside me. “Oh sh*t I said that aloud.” My face is red. But I’m so happy to see the car I open the door before the driver even has the chance to get out to open it for us. I slide in and Eric is right behind me. We begin driving and I relax into my seat while looking out the window. Once again my eyes shut and I fall asleep. I’m not sure how long I was out for when Eric’s voice brings me back to reality.
“Maddie, we’re here. Time to wake up.”
I open my eyes and see my head is resting on a pair of blue jeans. Which are very clear not mine. I sit up quickly. “Eric I’m so sorry I fell asleep on you! Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“You didn’t, your head was craned so bad on the seat I moved you. I knew you were tired. It’s ok.” He flashes me a smile. Gosh how does he make me blush so much. The driver opens the door and Eric slides out. He reaches down and offers me a hand.
“Oh thanks” I mumble as I climb out. Straightening my shirt I begin to look around. This is much much more than a house. This is a mansion.
“Eric, this place is incredible.”
“Thanks, I’ve owned it for the last seventy years. It’s just recently become my main house.”
There are beautiful white pillars in the front, with a giant front porch. On the top floor I see another large balcony wrapping around the side of the house.
He tugs my hand and begins to lead me inside. What have I gotten myself into? I’m on an unknown territory about to enter a vampires house.
