Scarlett cast a look over her shoulder when she reached Adele’s front door. Hudson still stood on her back porch, and the flame inside Scarlett’s chest burned like an inferno. “He is impossible,” Adele said, practically a shout. “Impossible!” The yell made Scarlett flinch away from her. Then she put her arm around Adele, who was crying—a real rarity for the Southern belle who’d been through a lot to get where she was. Of course, Adele had lost everything when Hank had walked out on her, except her debts, all the calls from the credit card companies, and her dignity. “Okay,” Scarlett said. “Come on.
