Dinner went better than expected, and my parents offered to tidy up the kitchen and wash the dishes. They wanted to have breakfast with me before they left for work, and my Mom would bake my favorite banana and pecan muffins, especially for this purpose. My Dad looked at me hopefully when he asked. I couldn't say no. I agreed, and they both smiled brilliantly at me. For a moment, I felt terrible because they were trying. But, just for a moment. I would forgive my mother in time, but I would never forget. My phone was completely charged, and I unplugged it when I returned to my bedroom. I checked my messages.
