Chapter 3: The Alpha Who Couldn’t Forget
Morning sunlight spilled across the Mooncrest Pack.
For the first time in days, Aria stepped outside.
The fresh scent of pine filled the air as warriors trained in the distance. Children chased one another through the village, their laughter echoing between the wooden houses.
Everything felt… peaceful.
Yet none of it felt familiar.
She stopped beside a small stream and stared at her reflection.
Long black hair.
Blue eyes.
A faint scar on her shoulder where the strange beasts had attacked her.
“Who am I?” she whispered.
No answer came.
Only silence.
“You shouldn’t be walking around alone.”
Aria turned.
Alpha Lucian stood a few steps behind her.
He wasn’t dressed in his usual Alpha robes. Instead, he wore a simple black shirt with rolled-up sleeves, making him seem less intimidating.
“I wanted some fresh air,” she said softly.
Lucian nodded.
“How are your memories?”
She forced a smile.
“Still gone.”
“I’m sorry.”
She looked at him.
“You’ve apologized more than I have.”
A small laugh escaped Lucian.
“I suppose I have.”
For the first time since waking up…
Aria laughed too.
Over the following weeks…
Life slowly settled into a routine.
Evelyn continued treating Aria’s wounds.
The village women taught her to cook and weave.
The children adored her because she always had time to play with them.
She began to feel…
At home.
Yet every night…
The same nightmare returned.
Silver eyes.
A broken bond.
Someone calling her name.
Then unbearable pain.
She always woke up crying.
One evening, Lucian found her sitting beneath the Moon Tree.
Its silver leaves shimmered beneath the full moon.
“You had another nightmare.”
It wasn’t a question.
Aria nodded.
“I see the same man every night.”
“What does he look like?”
She closed her eyes.
“Tall.”
“Dark hair.”
“Silver eyes.”
“He looks…”
She paused.
“…heartbroken.”
Lucian’s expression tightened.
“Do you know him?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t.”
“But every time I see him…”
“My chest hurts.”
Miles away…
Kael stood in the training grounds of Moonfang.
His warriors sparred fiercely around him.
One after another, they challenged their Alpha.
One after another…
They lost.
His anger made him unstoppable.
Finally, his Beta raised a hand.
“Enough!”
The warriors backed away, bruised and exhausted.
The Beta approached cautiously.
“Alpha…”
“You haven’t slept in days.”
Kael stared at the wooden sword in his hand.
“I close my eyes…”
“…and I see her.”
The Beta sighed.
“You did what you believed was right.”
Kael’s voice became almost a whisper.
“Then why does it feel so wrong?”
That night…
Kael entered a hidden room beneath the Alpha House.
Ancient candles flickered against stone walls.
In the center stood an old woman dressed in white.
The pack’s Oracle.
Without looking up, she spoke.
“You’ve come because of the girl.”
Kael remained silent.
“You rejected your mate.”
“You broke both your hearts.”
“And yet…”
She finally looked at him.
“…fate refuses to let go.”
Kael stepped closer.
“Tell me she’s alive.”
The Oracle closed her eyes.
After a long silence…
“I cannot see her.”
Kael’s heart sank.
“Because she’s dead?”
The Oracle slowly shook her head.
“No.”
“Because…”
“…someone has erased her from fate itself.”
Kael stared at her in disbelief.
“What does that mean?”
“It means your mate is hidden.”
“Hidden so completely that even the Moon Goddess cannot find her.”
A chill ran down Kael’s spine.
“Who could do something like that?”
The Oracle’s face turned pale.
“There is only one force powerful enough…”
“…the Shadow Alpha.”
Far away, in the darkest part of the Northern Forest…
A pair of crimson eyes opened.
A deep voice echoed through the shadows.
“So…”
“The lost Luna still lives.”
A wicked smile spread across the unseen figure’s face.
“Good.”
“It would be such a waste…”
“…if she died before I claimed what belongs to me.”
The forest shook as dozens of glowing red eyes appeared behind him.
The hunt…
Had begun.
