Being late was the least thing that Belinda wants to happen. She tried to fake a smile while walking towards Amanda, who had been waiting for her for almost thirty minutes. Amanda rolled her eyes when she saw her friend walking towards her wearing a fake smile.
She knew, she is in trouble.
“I’m sorry, I’m late.” She said while taking her seat.
Amanda raised her brows and folds her hands to her chest.
“Yeah, you’re late. Thirty minutes late actually.” She said, stating the fact. While taking a sip at her coffee.
She couldn’t say anything aside from the apology. She can’t say that she slept late at night thinking about Ethan. She’s sure that her friend wouldn’t like that. Who would? She saw how she cried, and how miserable she was that day. She even went to Ethan’s house to punch his face.
Belinda tried to change the subject by talking about her friend’s upcoming wedding. It’s one of the reason why she came home. She was her bride’s maid, and she even threatened her that if she didn’t show her face on her wedding day, it will be the end of their friendship. Being her one and only friend, Belinda surely didn’t want that to happen. Ofcourse, she would come even without the threat. It’s just that Amanda was overreacting.
“No changes in the wedding?” she asked.
Amanda shook her head, “It will be two weeks from now, no change, still the same. Except when the groom wants to change his mind, there will be war.” She answered, boldly. Belinda couldn’t control her laughter at what Amanda said. She was laughing so loud that even the other customers are looking at her, confused.
She’s still the same girl back in high school. She thought. Amanda is a badass, savage type of girl. And they are totally different. She’s the type of girl who’s so soft, innocent and pure. She’s always wondering why they became friends all of a sudden.
“So, what are your plans?” Amanda asked her.
“Plans? I’m not sure yet. Actually, I’m planning to teach some childrens about arts and painting.” She said, before sipping at her coffee.
“That would be great. If you need any help, just contact me. You can teach my students, if you want. Brent and I can help you.” I nodded at her. Brent is her fiancee. They are actually a childhood sweethearts. Amanda is a teacher at a public school right now, while Brent is an Architect, just like my brother. Speaking of brother, that boy Finn didn’t even show up yesterday!
“You’re staying here for good?” Belinda shook her head. She still has a lot of work to do in the city. Besides, she has no plan of staying here.
Amanda asked her questions about her life in the city, while eating some chocolate they have ordered. They talked about a lot of things they have missed about each others life, and then, Amanda asked her something that she’s trying to avoid.
“Tell me about your---“ Amanda couldn’t finish what she was saying when her phone rings. It was Brent who’s calling. She should thank Brent for calling at the right time.
After the call, Amanda seems bothered. “What happened?” She asked.
Amanda closed her eyes and lean her back to the chair. “It’s about Brent’s Mom. She is in the hospital right now. I should go. I’m sorry, Bel.” She felt guilty leaving Belinda in the coffee shop. But she cannot do anything since it was Brent’s mom, and Brent probably needs her right now.
Belinda shook her head, trying to ease Amanda’s guilt for leaving her alone, “No worries.” she said.
After Amanda left, she stayed there for almost ten minutes, and when she looked outside, she saw that the clouds are getting dark. She didn’t know that it would rain today. She looked at her wristwatch only to see that it was already eleven. An hour before lunch and her mother is expecting her to have lunch with her.
She asked for the bill but the waitress told her that the girl she was with, which is Amanda, has already paid their bill.
After leaving the coffee shop, she tried to look for a cab but since it’s just a small town, it’s hard to find one.
She tried to call her mom but her mother’s phone is out of reach.
She closed her eyes, trying to think where she can get a ride. Her father is busy working and she doesn’t want to disturb him, while her mother is out of reach. The only person in her mind is her brother, who’s probably busy with his work right now. But she had no choice.
She called her brother’s phone and thank goodness, it is ringing.
“Hello?” Her brother answered.
“Finn! Oh god! Thank goodness, you answered!” she said, as if her life depends on whether her brother will answer or not.
“Can you pick me up? I’m at the coffee shop, beside the supermarket. I don’t see any cab here, and the clouds are getting dark.”
Her brother didn’t say anything, for ten seconds.
“Are you still there?” So she asked.
“Someone is going to pick you up. I can’t leave yet, we’re in a rush.”
She rolled her eyes. Ah, what a busy man he is. But at least, he sent someone to pick her up. Before she could ask, the call ended.
He didn’t even told her who is coming to pick her up, and didn’t even said goodbye. Ugh. That man is really something. If she wasn’t asking for help, she probably cursed at him right at this moment, in the phone.
Belinda was bewildered when a car stopped right in front of her. She looked at it for ten seconds. Maybe it was the one who will pick her up. She knocked on the window but it did not open. Or maybe not. She thought.
Feeling embarrased of her actions, Belinda step back. For goodness sake, why does it stop in front of her? That was so embarrasing!
Before she could go back to the coffee shop, the door on the driver’s seat opened, and a man wearing a sunglasses stepped out. She couldn’t recognized the man, at first, but when he talked, her worlds crumbled.
