Chapter 4

1071 Words
Night fell and Jade was alone in the big room. She didn't know what Figlio had said to Dante, but as soon as he heard his words, he stormed out of the wedding cathedral, accompanied by men who had heavy guns in their hands. Jade was alone... scratch that, Figlio stood opposite her with a warm smile. He had said to her, "Dante has something important to take care of. I'll drop you home." Jade hesitated before nodded. She didn't even have a word with her mom before she left. 'Perhaps, that's how it is when a daughter got married' She thought to herself, sighing before she boarded the car. That led here. Alone, in a huge room. Her eyes scanned the room, and her brows furrowed. She could detect his favourite color just by standing in this room. The colors were dull, depressing, and enough to trap in them. With the help of the maids who were ordered by Figlio, she had long discarded the wedding gown. Her hands caressed her naked thighs as her heart raced. The sound of the door creaking snapped her out of her wandering thoughts as her head shot up, in time to see Dante walk into the room. His coat had disappeared, and the white shirt was stained red. Jade's eyes widened involuntarily. With quivering lips, she whispered, "i-is that blood?" Dante who was in the middle of unbuttoning his shirt turned to her and nodded curtly. Her face turned pale at his response, as she unconsciously took a step back. Dante narrowed his eyes as they trailed down her body. His eyes flared as a spark lit in his eyes. He took in her nightgown and the interest from earlier returned... this time, stronger. He had never seen a woman looked so sexy in a red nightgown. He wasn't a huge fan of the color red, but something inside of him stirred as he took in her form. The fabric slipped over her skin like liquid heat. The deep red satin clung to her body, soft yet deliberate, tracing every curve as though it had been made with her in mind. The thin straps rested lightly on her shoulders, barely there, giving the illusion that the dress could fall apart at the slightest touch… yet it held her perfectly. Delicate lace framed the neckline, dipping just enough to hint rather than reveal, adding a fragile elegance that contrasted sharply with the boldness of the color. The material hugged her waist before cascading down her hips, where it parted slightly at the sides, exposing glimpses of smooth skin with every subtle movement. It wasn't just a nightgown. It was a statement. Where the wedding gown had made her look like something to be protected… this made her look like something dangerous in a completely different way. Dante gulped dangerously, the noise alerting Jade whose attention to returned to him. This was enough for her to realize that he had been checking her out. "Mhm-hmm." She cleared her throat, breaking Dante's train of thoughts. "Y-you should go freshen up." She stated, without meeting his eyes. Dante's lips curved as he took slow steps towards her. Jade, being aware that Dante was walking towards her, took a step back while fiddling with the little material that barely covered her body. Dante noticed this, and his smile deepened. The more steps he took towards her, the more Jade took a step back. This continued till her back against the wall. Jade's eyes flickered with lingering fear. She touched the wall, then her eyes met with Dante's who didn't bother to hide the look in his eyes. Jade's chest rose and fell as the fear registered in her. She was trapped, with no way to leave. Her teeth caught her bottom lips as different thoughts raced in her mind. Dante was danger... a hot, living specimen, who reeked of danger. He was the kind that mothers warned their daughters from getting close to. Ironically, her mother pushed her to him. He was fire, the type that could get you burned. And Jade didn't want to get burnt. Dante observed her expression, her changing expression and he chuckled softly. Her thoughts were written plainly over her face. She didn't bother to hide her thoughts... or perhaps, she couldn't. He held her chin, forcing her to stare at him, just like he did at the cathedral. Jade's breathing turned rapid as she tried to hide that she flinched by his touch. "What makes you special?" He asked softly. Jade's eyes flashed with confusion, her brows creasing. "You are not outstanding. You flinch when you look at me. Your face turns pale when I utter a word. You breathe... fear." Dante uttered. Jade's feelings plummeted. 'He noticed?' She asked inwardly. 'But it hasn't even been up to a day since we met.' "We've only met for a couple of hours, yet I'm able to decipher your thoughts without even trying." Dante's words came out again, each one harsher than the next. "In this world, do you know what gets you killed?" He asked, and Jade shook her head hesitantly. "Fear. Fear is what gets you killed. As the wife of the Don of the biggest Mafia family, you are not allowed to show fear. You'd be under scrutiny, and once they find out that you have fear within you, that's all." He left her jaw, and walked straight out of the room. As soon as he left, Jade released the breath she didn't know she had been holding. She fell to her knees, swallowing while patting her chest. Dante's aura, it seemed to engulf in ways she never thought it could. Her mind replayed his words. Fear. Scrutiny. These two words were closely associated with her. All her life, she had always been under the scrutiny of others. All actions she took were heavily scrutinized. It seemed she couldn't escape the heavy scrutiny. But fear. It wasn't her fault that she was afraid. Dante had a... reputation. A terrible one at that. She recalled the look in his eyes, goosebumps rose all over her body. Could she survive being the wife of the Don? Wife of Dante Russo? She asked herself. Unfortunately... she didn't have the answer to these questions. The future seemed blurry to her, and she couldn't think of finding hope... not like there was any hope for her.
