CHAPTER ONE Emily's POV CHESTNUT APARTMENT, LOS ANGELES The sudden ring of my phone brought me back from my world of fantasy. Carefree, I swiped my phone and put the speaker to my ear. “Am I onto Emily Brown?” A soft feminine voice on the other end asked? “Yes, this is her” I replied so unconcerned, “it's probably one of these spam calls”, I thought. “Great! It's our pleasure to inform you that after going through your results at the interview and from a trusted recommendation, you are now the new Head pastry Chef at Dixton Hotel. We will be pleased if you accept our offer and resume duty at the hotel, a week from today for a menu drafting”. I sat up quickly on my bed. Yes, I know I did great in the interview, but a “trusted recommendation”? “Oh God, tell me this is heavens sent”, I muttered. “Sorry ma'am, what did you say?” I had forgot for a second i was on a call. “Yes, yes. I'd be at the hotel by 9am next Tuesday” I replied with all excitement. “Okay then, don't be late”. She answered and the next sound I heard was the disconnecting tone of the call. I screamed into my fluffy throw pillow, because that didn’t just happen!! I picked up my chefs hat which was lying carelessly on the floor, found my phone and scrolled through searching for “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. I certainly couldn’t hold my joy! STRIP BAR AND LOUNGE, LOS ANGELES. Emily’ POV “I truly can't thank you girls for coming out to celebrate my first job in over a year”, I slurred over the loud sound of music blasting through the speakers. My friends, Abbey, Joan and Izzy decided the best place to celebrate my new job, was a night out at a club. Their idea, not mine. Honestly, this was my first time in a place like this actually and I could tell it's not my thing. I mean, who gets tipsy and tired after just one drink?? “I don't feel good, i think I need to use the restroom” I told Izzy, rubbing my forehead. “You want me to go with you?” she asked, her eyes scanning my face. “No I'm good. Have fun, I be back soon”, I finished what was left in my tiny glass and handed it over to Abbey. But as I took a step, the room spun for a second, and I stumbled. Abbey grabbed my arm just in time. “Are you sure you don’t want me to walk you?” Abbey asked “No girl, the restroom’s just around that corner”, I replied pointing vaguely towards a direction as I walked passed our circle. The moment I stepped out of the packed dance floor into a more open space, cool air hit my face. I closed my eyes and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Finally, some peace. It was when I opened my eyes, I saw him.
