Chapter four

1023 Words
A week later, Lucas goes to one of his firms to check out how things were going on. He arrived at the place. It had been ages since he stepped his feet there. He didn't tell anyone he was going to be coming as usual. He always comes unannounced to keep the workers up on their toes. The workers were shocked to see him as usual. He got to his desk and sat down to check some stuff. Soon the secretary knocks, telling him that Mrs Vanessa wants to see him. She claimed to have a business talk and proposal." Sir, she has been coming here several times and she has been booking appointments too." "Let her in '' Lucas tells her without looking up. The secretary leaves and comes in with the lady. Lucas Head was still on the documents in his hand as he never looked up. " Here she is sir," The secretary said and was about to move away. " Get me coffee." That was all he said before looking up. Looking at the lady in front of him, she looked way too familiar. " Who could she be? She looks really familiar" he wondered while they both discussed. "Now Mr Lucas, I want to invest in your Firm. We could split shares, you'd take seventy percent and I'd take thirty from the returns on my investment". She said, balanced as she spoke with confidence and power. Why would she want to have a share in the company? She just popped out of the blue and here she is needing a share and wanting to invest. Mrs Vanessa leaned forward, her eyes locked on Lucas with an intensity that made him uncomfortable. "Mr. Lucas, I believe our partnership could be mutually beneficial. I have potential resources to invest in and I can help take it to the next level." Lucas studied Vanessa, as he processed her words. Who was she, by the way? "Vanessa, I appreciate your interest, but I need to understand your motivations better. Why do you want to invest in my firm? What's in it for you? And what are your financial pillars? Who are you too," he asked her. Vanessa's lips curled into a cryptic smile. "I have my reasons, Mr. Lucas. Let's just say I'm looking for a promising venture, and from my research your firm caught my attention. I believe we can create a dynamic partnership. I have a business." Lucas leaned back in his chair, folding his arms. He decided to push a bit harder. "You're being evasive, Vanessa. I can't enter into a business partnership without transparency. Tell me more about your background, your expertise, and your goals." Vanessa's smile didn't waver, but there was a flicker of annoyance in her eyes. She exhaled slowly, as if considering how much to reveal. "Very well, Mr. Lucas. I have a history of successful investments in various industries. My expertise lies in identifying opportunities that others overlook. As for my goals, let's just say I'm driven by the thrill of the game." Lucas nodded, her proposal was too flowery to be true, as he felt suspicious. He had dealt with many potential investors, but something about Vanessa's demeanor set off alarm bells. "I need time to think this through. I'll review your proposal and get back to you." Vanessa's smile widened slightly, and she stood up gracefully. "Of course, Mr. Lucas. Take your time. I'm confident you'll see the potential in our partnership." As she turned to leave, Lucas couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Vanessa's interest than met the eye. He watched her exit the room, his mind churning with questions. Once alone, Lucas reached for his phone and dialed his private investigator's number. He needed answers, and he needed them fast. He explained the situation and asked the investigator to dig deeper into Vanessa's business background. After reviewing everything he had come to check,he stood up to take his leave. He was going to go home and rest for the day. He walked outside the building and got into his car. He drove back home but this time he wasn't going to his house. He still felt this urge to go see his girlfriend Kira. He never spoke to her in the morning,he had left without saying good morning or goodbye, besides that. Besides, he didn't want to disturb her. He pulled up in front of the gate and pressed the remote control on the gate and it opened while he drove in. Getting into the house, he met his girlfriend sitting in the living room. "Hey babe, how are you?" He called her, making her shocked with a mixture of fear. She didn't seem to hear when he came into the house. She seemed to still be scared of the anonymous message she received. "Hey darling, how are you?" She repeated the question again," oh I am fine" she answered, slapping her head. She had just started to overthink. Fear seemed to be playing with her. "You seem troubled,is there any problem babe?" Lucas seemed to take notice of her mood." No, it's nothing. Come here". He came forward for a hug as she stretched her hands wide open. She was trying to avoid that question and also telling him the truth. She pinched his ear and dragged it close to her lips and kissed it, which made Lucas laugh. He felt tickled. "Go away… you left so early. Why?" She asked him. " I am sorry babe, I didn't want to disturb you with your girls". He told her. After their affectionate talk,he went upstairs to change up and went down and later to meet her. While Lucas left, another message was sent to her again. Still the anonymous message. This was the third time she had received a message. Inside of her she began to fret. Lucas quickly changed up and came downstairs to meet her looking lost in thought. " What is the problem? You look lost honey" he said, drawing her in for a cuddle." " Babe,.." she paused, still contemplating telling him.
