Outside the clinic, the general hall is just on the opposite, while the pack's main block is behind the clinic, and Dylan is smoking in front of the block by the time we reach.
Sandra snatches the cigarettes in his hand, tossing it on the ground and using her sandal to crush it.
"s**t, that was new." Dylan groans in annoyance, looking pissed at Sandra, "you need to stop doing this to me."
"I'm saving your life, stupid boy. Lucas forbade you from smoking," Sandra says, smacking his head, "You should be thankful that someone is watching your back."
Dylan is her cousin, I and him were homeschooled together. He's a very intelligent boy, excellent in solving maths and in other areas as well. We use to be close friends when we were kids until he started to drift away from me to hang out with Katy. I don't blame him though, I'm always sick and sleepy and stuck in one place.
I’m so boring.
Apart from that, Dylan likes Katy, but she doesn't like him back.
I've always felt like the girl has something against me. We just don't vibe together because she gives me the creepy, negative energy with her fake smile. Every action of hers feels really fake and creepy to me.
"Hi Wendy, you look nice." Dylan says with that his signature toothy smile. Oh dear goddess, this boy needs a tooth replacement surgery. I feel homicidal when he shows me that half broken tooth on his front row.
"Dylan, just lead the way before I find an axe."
He chuckles, "you're never gonna change. Go in, it's not like you need me to show you the way do you."
"We should go in so you can light up another cigarette? No Dylan, get in the front and lead the way." Sandra orders him and I can't help the short laughter that comes out of my mouth. Those two are like Tom and Jerry. Dylan is just sixteen, a year younger than me so I guess he has to bare with Sandra until he's old enough to intimidate her.
When we enter, the hall is already rowdy with noises and laughter. There's so many new faces in here, I think Katy must've gotten permission from Lucas to invite her guests from the other packs around.
"I'll go talk to Lucas, don't drink any alcohol Wendy." Sandra tells me before she hurry towards the couch where Lucas is talking to another lady I've never seen before.
That she-wolf better not try to seduce my brother who's already taken by Sandra.
As I hear the music tuning in, Lulu giggles inside my head. We’re so going to be dancing in front of out Mate.
What? In front of who?
Our Mate. Don’t you smell his presence?
I sniff the air around me and Lulu is right, the Greek god's delicious scent is somewhere close by. I'm really surprised, how could he have come here to attend this party? Who invited him? That 'tough guy angry at the world' hardly knows how to smile, he's not fit to be in places like this.
Scanning through so many handsome guys and cute girls, my heart slightly falls in my chest the moment I lock eyes with Adonis. He's sitting on a couch and holding a glass of red wine or whatever it is he's drinking. The way he seems so relax and lazy with his back against the couch is undeniably intriguing. His legs are comfortably spread out as if he's the one hosting the party.
Why did he look away?
He's gone from staring at me to suddenly staring at the tumbler in his hand. Is he avoiding the connection?
I don't look away. I keep my eyes on him, and as if he knows that I'm still looking, he raises his eyes again and we lock it. But this time, he holds my gaze with such a determination as if challenging me to a game.
Smiling, I finally roll my eyes away from him and just then, I feel someone's hand on my waist, the person turning me around very gently and delicately. A strange guy with blonde hair is standing before me, smiling.
"Hey Wendy, It's Cody Landon." His voice is so gentle and respectful. His touch doesn't repulse me either, probably because he doesn't have a bad intention.
Ow, I know his face from long time ago when their family visited me in the clinic. He's the second son of Alpha Landon, the recently deceased Alpha of the grey wolves pack. Wait, isn't today supposed to be his brother's inauguration ceremony?
"Nice to see you again, Cody. Sorry I didn't recognize you quick, because you look different."
His smile deepens, "I could say the same for you. You look so grown up. How's your health?"
"I'm better, thanks for asking. I heard about your Dad, I'm sorry about your loss. Alpha Landon was a great leader, he will never be forgotten. How's Charles doing?"
"Oh, Charles is the new Alpha. His ceremony ended just a while ago. He doesn't know that I left to come to Katy's birthday."
Oh? So they're friends with Katy? Or could there be something going on between the two of them?
Anyway, I should mind my business. I'm just going to be nice since he's a family friend, and he's such a warm guy. Yeah, totally warm. The opposite of cold.
Unlike someone.
Cold. Depressive. Savage.
I turn my head around to find Adonis still in his spot and playing with something like a bunch of keys in his hand. He's still staring at me, a sullen look on his face that isn't new to me anymore. Or have I just been misinterpreting his unreadable expression? Most of the time, he looks like a bull to me.
By the way, I'm confused. I don't know what makes him stare at me so much. Is the mate pull working on him now after all the denial?
Idiot. I should teach him a lesson.
I turn my head to Cody, wearing what I hope will look like a sweet smile on my face, "Do you mind. . . dancing with me?"
"Of course!" I feel him holding my waist and pulling me to himself instantly. His eyes are a darker shade of brown, they're beautiful but not attractive to me.
We dance slowly to the gentle tune of the music until my legs begin to feel like crackers. I've sneaked a couple of looks at the spot where Adonis was seated a while ago, but he doesn't return, the spot is still empty. I didn't notice which direction he went to, it seems like he already left.
All my showoff for nothing.
I excuse myself from Cody Landon and I don't know why I suddenly feel like the party doesn't excite me anymore. I walk through spaces between bodies of dancing betas and omegas, my eyes searching for Sandra. I see her faraway busy with Lucas near the backdoor so I decided to return to my room alone. At least I was able to have fun and danced to my fullest.
My body feels sore all over. That's my life for you. It's hard to do ordinary daily activities so things like parties that may appear normal for other werwolves can drain me so quickly.
Walking out the hall to the clinic block, I'm forcefully stopped by a tight grip around my wrist, his strong intoxicating smell embracing me even before I turn my head.
Under the civil twilight, Adonis watch me with eyes glowing dark green with specks of grey. He twist me around and put a firm hold on both my wrists, and I begin to pant with my back against him. My heartbeat is accelerating.
His hands slowly pack away my hair to one side of my shoulder. I feel his hot breath on the back of my neck as he brings his mouth to my ear.
"Mine." He growls so deeply, making the hair on my neck to stand still in reaction. His touch is electrifying.
But I don't allow myself to get swayed by his change of attitude. Instead, I'm suspicious, why is he finally acknowledging me as his Mate? Is it because he couldn't help but feel jealous that his Mate danced in the arms of another man-wolf?
I feel a triumphant smile coming to my lips but before it fully manifests, a bone crushing heaviness descend on my back, almost making me to experience what will have become the worst fall of my life. I have to summon all my reserved energy to hold Adonis who has passed out on my back. He's so drunk, and so ridiculously heavy.
Oh dear, what do I do with this big guy?
I'm going to suffer from spinal damage if I even make any attempt to piggyback this load of a guy.
Looking around the surrounding, my eyes fall on Dylan hiding behind a van in front of the clinic and smoking. I smile at the wicked thought in my head before yelling out his name. He turns his head, quickly hiding the cigarette, his eyes widely opened in shock.
"What's going on over there? Who's that on your back Wendy?"
"Bring yourself over here."
As if he knows my intention, his shoulder slumps in defeat as he walk up to me, muttering, "You and Sandra needs to get the hell out of my life."
"You were saying something, Dylan?"
"No."
"Then help me take this big guy to the clinic ward."
"Alone?"
"Of course not. I'll help with the legs."
"Who is he by the way? Do you know him?"
"He's my new tutor. Don't ask me anymore questions, let's just go before Lucas comes here and smell that cigarette on you."
Transporting Adonis happened to be much more difficult than I assumed it would. I already pity Dylan by the time we arrive at door of the ward room. His eyeballs looks like they're about to fall out but we still manage to get the big guy onto the second bed.
"Mission accomplished, that's all isn't it? Or do you have to make me your errand boy for a week?"
I smile wickedly, "Good suggestion."
Dylans' eyes shoot open and he looks like he wants to start crying.
"I'm joking, you're free to go and your secret is safe with me. But I do hope you quit smoking for good Dylan. You're too young to start destroying your lungs."
"You guys don't even know why I smoke in the first place."
"Oh yeah? Isn't it because Katy doesn't like you? She thinks of you as a boy?"
Dylan throws me a glare, "Such a nice way to sum it up, Wendy. Really, I should go before you rub more salt on my wounds." He strolls out of the room, leaving me chuckling alone by myself.
Poor Dylan and his one sided obsession for a girl who's two years older than him. He's a nice kid anyway. I hope that he will find a better girl and forget about that Katy the attention seeker.
