One Night,No Names

729 Words
The room was quiet. Too quiet. The only sound came from the city outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. Bangkok was still awake. Cars moved through the streets below. Lights from nearby buildings reflected against the glass. But inside the hotel suite, time seemed to slow down. Savvy stood near the door, holding her phone. She should leave. She had already stayed much longer than she had planned. Her friends had probably stopped wondering where she was. Her family probably thought she was already on her way home. And yet, she couldn't bring herself to open the door. "Are you feeling any better?" The woman sitting on the edge of the bed didn't answer. Her hands were still shaking. Her breathing was still uneven. Something was clearly wrong. But every time Savvy suggested calling someone, the answer was always the same. No. No doctor. No assistant. No family. Nothing. She walked toward the small table and poured another glass of water. "Here." The woman accepted it. "Thanks." Those few words were enough to surprise her. Until that moment, she wasn't even sure the woman wanted to talk. "You know, most people would probably tell me their name by now." No answer. She laughed. "Seriously?" The woman slowly raised an eyebrow. "Most people wouldn't stay this long." "That's fair." A small smile appeared. And then it disappeared just as quickly. For a moment, they simply looked at each other. Two strangers. No introductions. No explanations. Nothing. And somehow, that made the situation even stranger. Savvy sat down in the chair across from the bed. "You really aren't going to tell me anything, are you?" Silence. "Okay." She leaned back and crossed her arms. "Keep your secrets." The woman lowered her eyes. For the first time that night, she looked vulnerable. Not powerful. Not confident. Just tired. And for some reason, that changed everything. The distance between them suddenly felt much smaller. "You should get some rest." The woman slowly stood. And immediately lost her balance. "Careful." Savvy reached forward to steady her. Her hands automatically caught her shoulders. And suddenly, they were standing much closer than either of them expected. For a second, neither of them moved. The room became completely silent. She could hear her own heartbeat. Which was ridiculous. Because she didn't even know this woman's name. The woman looked up. And for a brief moment, their eyes locked. Then she looked away. "I should go." But her feet didn't move. Instead, she helped the woman sit down again. Minutes passed. Or maybe it was longer. She wasn't sure anymore. The night was becoming a blur. Outside, the city lights continued to shine. Inside, the silence continued to grow. And somewhere between concern, exhaustion, and emotions neither of them understood, something changed. There was no planning. No expectations. No promises. Just one unexpected moment leading to another. And before either of them realized it, the distance between them disappeared completely. The sun hadn't risen yet when Savvy finally opened her eyes. For a few seconds, she didn't know where she was. Then she recognized the unfamiliar room. The luxury suite. The hotel. The events of the previous night. She immediately sat up. Her heart started racing. "Seriously?" She ran a hand through her hair. What had happened? No. That wasn't the right question. She knew exactly what had happened. The real question was... What was she supposed to do now? She looked toward the other side of the room. The woman was still asleep. Peaceful. Calm. Completely different from the person she had found in the hallway. She quietly stood up. This was awkward. Very awkward. And staying any longer would only make it worse. She grabbed her jacket. One last glance. And then she walked toward the door. No names. No phone numbers. No promises to meet again. Nothing. She opened the door and stepped into the hallway. And just like that, she disappeared. Inside the room, the woman slowly opened her eyes. She looked toward the door. Empty. The stranger was gone. And somehow, that simple realization left an unexpected feeling behind. Neither of them knew who the other person was. Neither of them expected to meet again. And both of them believed that this night would remain nothing more than a memory. They were wrong. Because sometimes, a single night is enough to change an entire life.
